Hi,
i am massively overweight and started slimming world last Thursday. Since then i have been got a run and done a gym class. I’ve stuck to the plan 100% (or so I thought), even sat with home made kebab and salad whilst my family were eating pizza at the weeekend.
I’ve weighed myself today, 5 days after starting and I’m still the same weight in the morning as I was last Thursday evening 😣😣😣😣
I just want to cry I have put my all into this week and am so so gutted I’ve not yet lost any weight. What am I doing wrong 😭

I’ve done all the diets in my time but didn’t lose weight on slimming world and gave up after a few weeks on the couple of times I tried it. For the last 4-5 years I’ve remained slim by losing weight doing Joe Wicks 90 day plan (there’s probably a more up to date version) then continuing to exercise and do the 16:8 with a bit of thought about eating sensibly.

Slimming world was too carb heavy for me. I know you can also eat lean protein but for me the combo of lower carbs, high protein and moderate fat (in things like avocado and Greek yoghurt) seemed to work best.

I have PCOS and carry my weight centrally so am probably a bit insulin resistant hence low carbs working well for me. SW allows this option but anything with fat in is a syn which is problematic if you want to eat a decent proportion of “good” fats.

It works. I have followed it since January and clicked up 4st lost this week. Don't weight yourself at home. Stick to the programme really carefully. I am 45 and carry my weight round my middle. I have found it really easy.

There have only been 2 weeks where I have not lost and both times I had a bigger loss the next week.

Weeks where I am not as on plan, I lose just a pound but there have been a couple of weeks where I have lost 4-5lbs.

If you don't lose, you are either not sticking to it or are over eating the free food. You can not eat limitless wholewheat pasta for example. The calorie content isn't low if you eat huge bowls of it.

The diet is low carb, low fat , and is a way of eating and cooking that can change your approach to food. I just eat the free food and the healthy a and b choices- I don't bother eating SYNS.

My blood pressure is normal, blood sugar is normal, cholesterol has dropped from 6.2 to 4.6 and my achey knees have stopped aching. I have dropped 5 dress sizes. My group has much bigger losers than me. It works. Keep a food diary and be honest.

It could be too many carbs, or the portion sizes could need watching. I'd say I'd be surprised if you don't lose something next week.
Maybe a calorie counting diet might work better for you?

have One third of your meals been super speed foods?

bubblesandlight · 22/08/2024 09:50

Don’t weight yourself at home.

have you been keeping a food diary? Your sw rep can give you some points IF after 7 days you don’t see a difference but then I think you’d fine a big difference in week 2

or post what you’re eating on here if you want some advice in the mean time?

You really do have to follow the plan and weigh everything no matter how small you think it is

Flossyts · 01/09/2024 08:53

Have you kept a food diary? If you post it here maybe we can help?

nearlyemptynes · 02/09/2024 11:26

I started in Jan and have lost 4 stone 4. I still have about 5 stone to loose. Are you eating enough speed?

Slawit · 11/12/2024 15:51

Stick to the SW rules just reduce your portion sizes, if you’re eating healthy then just get that balance of slightly reducing your calorific intake v what your body is using. I know the principle of SW is not to calorie count but at the end of the day if you’re in a calorie deficit your body has got to get the energy from somewhere. I also have also reduced my carb intake to virtually zero. Don’t give up my wife only lost 1 lb in her first 3 weeks, but now the weight is coming on slowly but surely.
