SLimming world for 3 years help

I'm trying to help my wife, she's been on slimming world for 3 years and done really well on it lost about 4 stone in that time.
But the last year nothings really shifted since last September at 11s 2lb and now she's currently 11s 13lb. She's just getting really depressed with it as she sticks to the plan rigidly doesn't even drink alcohol anymore either (honestly its really boring for both of us)
I've suggested between 11 and 12 stone might be the weight she should be for her body type or she needs to do some exercise to kick start any other losses in weight but both suggestions haven't been met with any enthusiasm.
Can anyone recommend any ideas? I've been supporting her these last 3 years but am out of suggestions other than contacting a nutritionsit.

It’s probably more that even though she is following slimming world correctly, her daily calorie intake is too high for her to lose weight? Why not try a free trial of nutracheck to track how many calories? I found even on a 100% sw day with 7 syns, I had 2200 calories which was way over my maintenance calories never mind any deficit.

I agree that she's eating too many calories. Use MyFitnessPal to track calories. It's free. I don't lose weight unless I'm eating 1200 or less.

thanks ill have a look at her calorie in takeand take it from there.

Many thanks

just set up the myfitness pal and put in all the pertanent details to lose a pound a week they want her to have 1290 calories a day till July to reach her target.

Her current calorie intake is 190 less than that so i guess its not a calorie problem

O think it is very unlikely that she is eating 1100 calories a day and staying at 11 stone. She must we wildly underestimating her calories.

1 back off
2 back off a bit further

I'd agree with that - it's very easy to underestimate what you eat unless you log it all.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2024 17:36

It’s highly unlikely she’s doing sw to the letter and staying at 1100 calories every single day. The healthy extras are 360-400 cals depending what you choose, and you get 300 cals in syns. So it would be very difficult to actually eat anything and stay at 1100 every single day.

anecdotally, including my own extensive experience, it’s really hard to do sw when you don’t have lots to lose.

Why is she unable to ask this herself or look into this herself?

IanDpalm · 09/05/2024 17:36

Its pretty darn accurate i'd say, i can't stress how anal she is with her food intake, everything is logged in a diary everything is weighed out , shes done this for 3 years i mean i wouldn't have the dedication for that lol.
it was working for the first 2 years now she's plateaued for the last 8 months.
All i can think is more exercise but with her shifts patterns thats easier said than done

@3WildOnes well yes. Maintaining your weight at 1800 calories is easy (ish) and if you’re bmi 19-20 you’re really slim. It’s when your bmi is 26 and you want to lose 2 stone and need to cut that 1800 down to 1400 to lose weight that the problems arise, surely? I could maintain on 1900 a day but I want to lose weight!

This. If my DH tried policing my food he’d get very short shrift!

Though if you want to give her some helpful advice, suggest that she goes back to basics - write every single thing she eats on her planner, weigh everything etc. It’s amazing how much extras sneak in when we get a bit lazy and complacent.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2024 17:43

@IanDpalm why is she weighing everything out if she’s doing slimming world? The whole point is that you don’t need to weigh everything.

3WildOnes · 09/05/2024 17:53

@thenewaveragebear1983 but you don't really need to eat ridiculously low amounts to lose weight. Just eat the amount of calories that you would need to maintain at your ideal weight and you will eventually get there. Of course it won't be quick but it will work in time.

IanDpalm · 09/05/2024 17:54

ok thanks for your help guys. gonna close it now seems to be spiraling

So if you are say 5'4" aged 40 and moderately active. If you want to be 9st then if you ate 1900 calories a day consistently then you should eventually get down to that weight and then maintain that weight.

It’s only free and speed food you don’t need to weigh. Anything that syns you do, and they’re usually what tip the scales. I weigh pasta and rice too, even though they’re free, there’s no weigh I’d lose on the amount of pasta I can neck!
