Slimming World

AIBU to be disappointed

ThirdTimeLucky27 · 06/03/2024 14:37

Hi I've just had my first weigh in at slimming world. I followed the plan completely for 6 days this week as I didn't start until the day after my first group and I've only lost 2lb!

I'm feeling really disappointed that it's not more, is this a sign it's not going to work for me long term?

I have 6st I want to loose so it's not because I'm not very big.. Just seems like it's gonna to take such a long time to feel comfortable in myself again.

I had a baby 12 weeks ago and have suffered with high blood pressure since, not sure if that has anything to do with the small loss.

Thanks for listening to my moaning x

I don't agree with slimming world they have some very strange ideas regarding food. 2 lb in 6 days is amazing. Rapid weight loss isn't sustainable.

I think 2lb is great! I would love that

While a lot of people have a really big loss in their first week, many don't. I think you need to give it a bit longer.

Did you hand your sheet (?) in to the consultant for them to check?

Stick with it. The first couple of weeks your body will adjust. Remember that you need to be eating a third of a plate of veg, just because pasta is 'free' if your having meals that consist mainly of the 'free' carbs weight loss will be slow.

My first 3 weigh in I lost barely anything but then it started coming off 2-3 lb a week, sometimes more. There's a person in my group who just got their certificate for losing 12 stone!!

I felt really bloated my first few weeks. You'll get there OP!

2lb is a brilliant weight loss. Usually it's suggested you should only lose 0.5-1lb a week! You'll never succeed if you don't celebrate every loss. Every number lower is better than higher!

It's probably because you were following a fairly sensible varied diet before, so it's a small, sustainable, change.

Look after yourself, you've just made a whole human (who is presumably taking up all your time!)

2lb is fantastic I think you should reflect over the week and think did you feet deprived or really hungry if not then that's a success.

Your hormones are also still settling after having a baby there is so many variables. Have your exercised at all

Can I ask, what loss were you hoping for? Because it may have been unrealistic.

Some people drop a lot early on (not just with SW) and then it tapers off and slows down, which disheartens them and they can fall off the wagon.

I know it can feel like a long road ahead with 2lb out of 6st, but if you can sustain 1-2lb a week long term and feel that "win" every week, you'll probably stay the course longer than those with a big win the first week or few, that gets slower and slower iyswim.

There's a certain psychological thing that can be a play, with the big wins that slow down that can make the end goal feel further and further away each week, rather than progress. Try and reframe it in your mind if you can Flowers

Weightloss isn't always linear anyway but I've found this to be particularly the case with SW.

I'm a huge fan of SW for it's simplicity and results if you stick to plan. But I've found some weeks I'll have a 0.5lb loss when I've been 100% on plan and other weeks a 3lb loss when I've had two massive cheat meals that week (as in blow the budget, buffet restaurant type cheat meals 😬).

Just know that it's working and going in the right direction...that's really all that matters and a 2lb loss is great. If you do that every week you'll be TWO STONE down by the time summer comes...that would be phenomenal progress op.

2lb is a good loss. What were you expecting?

Go and weigh out 2lbs of some penne pasta and see how much it is, that's what I do!

Thank you all for your lovely replies!
I guess I was thinking 4 or 5 pounds maybe in the first week. Yes baby is definitely taking all my time and attention at the moment.
I think with sticking to plan 100% and walking a lot more than usual I was expecting a miracle! But what you've said makes a lot of sense.

2 lb is still a good loss! Please don't be so hard on yourself. I joined SW in January and I've lost 1 stone 5 lbs. It's be n slow and some weeks where I've put all into it I've maintained. Or lost half a lb. My first week I lost 5.5lb. you will find though that your weight fluctuates souch at any given time that you might only weigh in and have lost 2 lb but that the next week the scales "will catch up". You could be retaining water, or had a lot of salt, or not had a no 2 or be due on your period. All can make you weigh more. Don't get disheartened. I have 6 stone to lose too and I know it sucks when you've worked so hard. Stick with it. I had a few bad weeks where I lost barely anything so along side sw I stared calorie counting and having 1500 cals a day and sticking to that and ive lost a bit more now x

It all adds up, as long as you're losing even if it's just 1 or 2lb a week then it's working. I made slow but steady progress on SW but because I never felt hungry or miserable on it I just kept plodding on.
If you need visual motivation then picture four blocks of butter, imagine them unwrapped and piled on a plate, that's approximately what you've lost, four blocks of fat.

2lb in less then a week is absolutely amazing, esp as your body is feeling with HUGE hormonal changes

I dont mean this to sound rude, I really dont, but the people seeing those big losses week in and out are the ones who are making HUGE changes to what they were eating and SW eating

My weight loss has been no more then 1.5 a week, usually a pound, sometimes 2lb, but its been slow because before I started I had a pretty decent diet and Im post menopause

Doesn't stop me getting hugely pissed with those that come in and loose 6lb their first week though lol. But it settles down for them as well and they too get the feeling of disappointment when they feel they have stuck to the plan and only a pound off

Trust the programme. Eat lots of speed and use your syns if you need to. Dont cut meals, dont allow yourself to go hungry and it will show on the scales
