Hi @SmiggleBag how are you getting on? I'm also EBF my four month old and signed back up today to help shift the extra stone I've picked up while pregnant

uptheantrimcoast · 28/07/2023 16:40

Hi @LeftTheWashingOut how have you been getting on? I'm going to sign up in the morning and am EBF my 3 year old.

uptheantrimcoast · 29/07/2023 10:16

I meant 3 month old 😅

SmiggleBag · 30/07/2023 17:59

Hi there, I started and lost about 10lbs over a couple of weeks but I've stopped now as my supply seemed to drop. I was following carefully and had the extra dairy (Hex A?) but obviously my body just needed more to keep up with the demands of EBF baby!

I've been doing ok @uptheantrimcoast but trying to be careful not to affect my supply but at the same time not taking too many liberties! I've lost 4 lbs in 2.5 weeks, so I'm happy so far. If I can continue like this I'll be really pleased and surprised (mainly as I'm not as strict as I should be).

uptheantrimcoast · 06/08/2023 21:06

@SmiggleBag @LeftTheWashingOut well done both of you!
I actually only started yesterday instead of last weekend so today is day 2. I actually didn't think about my supply! I suppose that losing weight slowly and steadily will be the best to hopefully prevent any issues.

Indecisive2023 · 06/08/2023 21:11

I joined but wasn’t given any guidance on BF and SW and I found it was hard to sustain (to be fair, I only tried 2 weeks!) baby is now 11 months so planning to try again. Any tips? I’m still hungry all the time and tired and so constantly crave sweet things and carbs :-(

LeftTheWashingOut · 08/08/2023 22:34

@Indecisive2023 I've found the handiest thing is being organised with snacks to hand in the fridge : packs of chicken, pre roasted veg and potatoes, grapes. That way, when it's been a bad night and I'm having a day when I just want to eat everything in sight there's some easy to grab food that isn't a biscuit. I've also been eating a lot of the ryvitas with currents and pumpkin seeds as a replacement for a biscuit with a cup of tea. I've also been cooking extra rice/pasta with our evening meals to have in the fridge to make a bulky salad with as a replacement for lunch. Slimming world is great but it only works if you've got time to be prepped - otherwise you either end up hungry or eating stuff you shouldn't because you don't have time to make something proper with little ones to fit in with.

Hello,

sorry if I’ve posted this on the wrong part of the site, I’m still trying to navigate my way around!

I just have a question for breastfeeding mums. Im EBF my 1 month old and in that time since birth, I’ve gone back to only a stone off my pre birth weight with the pounds still steadily dropping. I was 14 stone at the end of my pregnancy and went straight down to 13 stone after the birth because of course baby, placenta and water going! I’m now just under 12 stone and as I said still steadily dropping. My pre pregnancy weight was around 11 stone. I’m just surprised at how quick I’ve shrank back as when I had my daughter, it took me ages to lose the weight, albeit, I was combination feeding her and then eventually when she was 4 weeks, completely using formula. I know every pregnancy is different and it’s not something to complain about but as I suffer with health anxiety, I just wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced the same and if this was normal? Tia x

uptheantrimcoast · 06/09/2023 19:56

Hello @Bakergirlninteytwo it's absolutely possible to lose weight while breastfeeding, especially if you're eating a healthy diet and drinking lots of water. Breastfeeding can burn 500 calories a day!
It doesn't come off easily for everyone (like me!), but it can do for some. It doesn't sound like anything is wrong to me, but obviously I don't know you! At 1 month pp you may have a health visitor visit soon? If you're concerned, give them a call or ask at your next appointment. Or, call your GP X

uptheantrimcoast · 06/09/2023 20:00

@LeftTheWashingOut @SmiggleBag @Indecisive2023 how are you all getting on? Are you still doing it?
I've managed to lose 12lbs in 4 weeks and I'm very pleased, have lots to go still! But this week's been harder for me, I'm trying hard to avoid temptation and undo all the work.

LeftTheWashingOut · 07/09/2023 08:55

@uptheantrimcoast that's great! You're doing really well are you pleased?

I'd shifted 9lbs in 7 weeks which I was really pleased with. I'm on holiday now so probably putting it all back on 😂 but better to have shifted it before than just gain even more on holiday. I'll get back on it as soon as I'm home.

@Bakergirlninteytwo as SW is just essentially eating healthily I don't think you need to worry. I lost an initial stone post birth and then probably another half stone in the first six weeks. I then just plateaued as I was taking liberties and eating a lot of biscuits knowing it was ok as I was breastfeeding. So I didn't gain weight but as soon as I started SW it started to drop off again. So I don't think you've anything to worry about so long as you're eating well (and enough). How tall are you? So long as you stay a healthy weight for your height thats what's important. Make sure you are eating enough calcium too - lots of cheese and milk (so long as you're not vegan - then it's kale 😀)
