Getting back on it…4 week challenge

elasticatedwaste · 20/08/2021 07:33

Creating this thread just for accountability!

Lost three stone at SW and got to target just before lockdown. Up and down for the last 18 months but I’ve now put on 21 pounds and I feel pretty bad. So now I’m going to commit to following SW for the next four weeks apart from four day holiday. I’m not setting a weight loss weekly target because I’m a dreadful ‘fuck it’ person and if I don’t lose my target then I’ll see it as a reason to abandon the whole thing. So I’m setting my stall out here…

-Follow SW
-15 syns limit
-Cycle to work when possible
-Meal plan realistically (busy life often means tiredness but I can freeze some stuff and have protein and salads).
-No alcohol except on holiday

Starting weight 12.2
Healthy weight upper limit for height 10.6

Will weigh each Friday.

How are you getting on?

elasticatedwaste · 25/08/2021 21:20

Hi @OwlinaTree it’s been going quite well so far, though I’ll weigh on Friday so I can’t be sure. Somethings I’ve not been able to do like cycling as my bike broke. It has been a really busy physical work week (normally quite deskbound) and that’s helped add a little exercise but also I'm much better at not snacking when distracted!

Food wise I’ve stuck to very low syn days, probably only 5 at the most as on Sunday I had a roast and so that will have put me over by a mile so I saved my syns. Saving syns used to be fine when I did slimming world before but I know they don’t like it now, but I still do it. Only one glass of wine which is good, alcohol makes me crave carbs so it’s best left alone this week!

So fingers crossed for a motivating loss on Friday on propel me through my holiday next week!

6 pounds off. I had hoped for 3 so this was really good. I do know that I always lose a lot in the first week so I’m not expecting that each week! It’s been exceptionally busy at work and I’ve been doing more than 10,000 steps each day and no time for snacking, and so tired I’ve been in bed by 9.30.

Next week is holiday so I’ll be on plan now until Monday then off plan until Friday but I’ll weigh on Saturday. I think a loss is unrealistic, but maybe a maintain. It’s a camping holiday with 3 small children so won’t be sitting around but I’ll also be eating what every eats so it might be tricky!

Start weight 12.2
Week 1 weight loss 6pounds
Current weight 11.10
Health weight upper limit 10.6

OP posts:
OwlinaTree · 27/08/2021 08:02

That's great! 6lb off in a week, well done!

elasticatedwaste · 03/09/2021 21:59

Back from holiday but decided not to weigh as it won’t be good. So back on plan tomorrow and weigh in next Friday. I realised that I never really wrote what the 4 week challenge was for me. It was to just get started, not to wait until after holiday, just start! And keep going for four weeks.

OP posts:
elasticatedwaste · 10/09/2021 05:46

Well it was a disappointing half pins this week! I guess I could have out on more than I thought on holiday and because I didn’t weigh I’ve actually lost more
In the last seven days. Anyway it’s a four week challenge and I’ve stuck to plan this week so here’s to the next week!

Start weight 12.2
Week 3 weight loss .5
Current weight 11.9 1/2
Healthy weight 10.6

OP posts:
MilesOfSand · 10/09/2021 05:52

I’m trying again too, similar weight loss I’m the last and needed again! I’ll join you if that’s ok!

MilesOfSand · 10/09/2021 05:52

*in the past!

elasticatedwaste · 10/09/2021 06:16

@MilesOfSand yes come join me! I started the thread because I needed accountability and my local group isn’t up and running and the other groups clash with work. I figured a commitment to four weeks would get me back in the swing of things! How is it going for you?

OP posts:
MilesOfSand · 10/09/2021 21:26

Brilliant, thank you! Yes it’s the accountability of being weighed isn’t it, and trying to recreate that without the in-person bit.

So 11.10 and 1/2. I’d love to be 9.5 but 10 would do!

elasticatedwaste · 12/09/2021 08:53

Well good luck @MilesOfSand. I have a really busy week so I’m going to try and prep stuff today otherwise that could be hard. And my bike is still broken so that really needs sorting so I can do some exercise!

OP posts:
HelloDaisy · 12/09/2021 20:20

Can I come and join you too please?

I am about 12 stone and want to get down to 10.10 at least. 10.4 would be my ideal but will be happy with 10.10

I was doing well and even lost some at the start of lockdown last year, probably due to stress and anxiety, but have put loads on since then.

Trouble is I can’t seem to stop snacking so joining you should help to sort that as i will have outweigh myself and write it down each week. Y meals are fine as a rule but the syns are out of control…

elasticatedwaste · 12/09/2021 20:48

Sure @hellodaisy come and join us! I was at target as lockdown began but I found most of the last 18 months really hard. I found food and alcohol were my ‘rewards’ for getting through some tough days. Now I’m a stone and a half overweight so I really need to sort myself out. Work from home was not helpful for me, I just snacked.

I’m trying not to set weight loss specific goals, the aim for me is just to stick to plan. If I set a goal, say 2 pounds a week, then if I don’t do it then I’ve a tendency to go off the rails. I’m back in the office 2 days a week and the kids are at school and this helps me feel more balanced. I know my downfalls are usually when I don’t plan and don’t have some good food choices in so I’ve tried hard to sort that out over the last few weeks. I’m helped also that my OH is trying to get back in shape so there’s very little temptation around the house!

OP posts:
MilesOfSand · 12/09/2021 21:29

Hi @HelloDaisy I totally know what you mean about snacks being your downfall. As much as I know that snacking isn’t really great for me, the thing about Slimming World is that there’s always something you can have, which works for my psychologically, so I don’t feel like throwing in the towel and going mad.

Agree with how hard the last 18 months has been!

HelloDaisy · 13/09/2021 08:33

That’s it, I’ve started and think it’s a good idea to just aim for sticking to plan rather than setting a goal for each week.

I’ve printed out a sheet of smiley faces with 15 of them for each day to use as a syns list so will cross them off as I use them and stop snacking when all gone!

I have always worked from home but have found snacking harder since lockdown as having rest of family in the house more disrupted my routine and have had trouble resetting it. Hopefully this will work…

Good luck to you for the week

elasticatedwaste · 17/09/2021 06:39

3 pounds off this week. Really pleased. It has been a really busy week at work physically so that helped as I had no time to snack. Lots of cakes were brought in as well so ate a load of fruit, and then had a mini brownie and that was enough for me. Normally I’d have gone all in!

So that’s the four weeks done and I’m 9 pounds down and as that included a holiday. I’m happy that I just got started, and I’m not another 4 weeks down the line and still thinking about starting.

So the next challenge is to do the same. 4 weeks sticking to plan. I have one weekend away planned and I really need to fix my bike!

Start weight -12.2
Weight loss week 4- 3 pounds
Current weight-11.6
Healthy weight 10.6

Away for the weekend so no weigh in today. Had a week where I’m absolutely starving because of my hormones so I let myself eat as much as I wanted but healthily though not SW friendly. Coming out the other side now so will enjoy my break and get back in it on Monday.

MrsSith · 01/10/2021 01:26

@elasticatedwaste how are
You getting on OP? Fingers crossed for you

elasticatedwaste · 01/10/2021 06:08

Half a pound this week which considering I was eatin LG loads of food and drinking loads of alcohol last weekend is fine with me. I’m now motivated by getting my winter clothes out, there’s some stuff in there that would be much more comfortable in a few pounds time.
I don’t have much on in the next few weeks and work is really busy so I’ll have no excuses if I don’t continue to focus on my health!

That's great - a loss is still a loss! I'm eating out a lot this weekend and feeling anxious - any tips ?
elasticatedwaste · 01/10/2021 20:07

@MrsSith hmm to be honest when I look back at what I did when I lost three stone I usually just had whatever I wanted for as a main and desert and got straight back on it the next day. And I didn’t drink because that’s when it goes really pear shaped for me and then if I’m hungover I eat rubbish the next day too and then I trigger the ‘fuck it’ mind set. So I’d prep to have food in for the next day that was healthy and then I wasn’t tempted. This is basically what I’m doing now too but I’ve not actually really been out to eat this time, but it’s what I’ve done on holiday this this time, just got straight back on it when I’m home. I’ve always felt that trying to make SW fit in to meals out was not something I wanted to do when I’m paying for a meal out and I don’t want plain boiled rice! I did used to look ahead at the menu sometimes and then have no syns the days before so I had some in the bank (my old consultant wasn’t keen on this method but it did work for me) so I felt more in control. Sorry, my tips are not that helpful! Have a lovely weekend!

A pound off this week which considering the week included a day of eating horrid office biscuits because I was having a bad day! So 2 pounds to go and I’ve lost a stone so I’m going to focus this week as I have very little on.

Start weight- 12.2
Week 8? Weight loss-1
Current weight 11.4
Healthy weight-10.6

One last pound off for the last day of the challenge. I’ve done 8 weeks of healthy eating. This week I’ve had to change from SW to calorie counting to fit in with family meals and that’s why I’ll continue to do. So the final stats for my final SW board post.

Start weigh 12.12
Week 8 loss 1
Current weight 11.3
Target 10.6

Oh well done. I always find that the hardest part is sticking to it. Well you've done so.
