Good little hacks

Any top hacks or tips? For example Waitrose golden veg rice is 1 syn for the whole pouch whereas uncle bens is 3. I find simple little saves like that all add up and really help.

Anyone got any tips?

Splitting your HEXs is good. I use 2 x 20g of cheese for 2 meals. So I could have a cheese salad sandwich plus some cheese over a pasta dish at dinner.
I but the lo dough wraps to save my HEXB. They are not too bad and 2 syns each.
For dessert a yoghurt and fruit with a crumbled meringue nest over the top is basically Eton Mess. Ish Wink
They are 2.5 syns

wildthingsinthenight · 15/03/2021 13:28

Also the Linda McCartney red onion and rosemary sausages are a lifesaver. So tasty and free

I've been using my HEX B for Alpen light bars but I think I need to find a different evening snack. I use my HEX A for milk so that I don't have to monitor how much I use for coffee and tea but maybe I should track

I never track my first HEXA for milk for tea but weigh my 2nd HEXA. Naughty really but I'm happy with my losses

Options hot chocolate topped with 10 mini marshmallows is 3 syns. It’s my number 1 number 1 choice for an evening treat because it’s not something you can just hoover up in a split second. It's a slow sipper and then the marshmallows get all gooey and just delish.
Ice lollies are my second choice because they are frozen, they take longer to eat which is useful when you're enjoying your syns and want to make them count! The fruit pastilles lollies are 2.5 syns and a mini Twister is 2!

wildthingsinthenight · 16/03/2021 07:46

Great ideas Fivemoreminutes1

Great ideas, thank you! I didn't realise the ice lollies were so low syn, great snack choice!

The 10 calorie jelly pots work out at only half a syn each and they’re to die for with some light squirty cream and sprinkles added. A real treat and the whole thing comes in at around two syns!
If you like a thick yogurt I highly recommend the Lindahs Kvarg yogurts. I get mine in Tesco and they come in at just half a syn. I love to freeze the Vanilla one and serve it with raspberries on top. Feels like ice cream!
The 10g bags of Rainbow Drops are only 2 syns.

This is a great thread! Sorry no ideas but wanted to write something to say thanks to those who have contributed!

I'm not doing SW but have in the past. Trying to do it without the 'cheats' that I would've done in SW.

Pink & whites are low syn but very sweet. A small smear of peanut butter under the lid makes all the difference!

Use Parmesan instead of cheddar for more flavour & use a micro plane grater rather than a thicker one.

Lighter than light Mayo is much less calories than light Mayo.

Season all seasoning is great thrown on a my veg for roasting.

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 01/04/2021 15:33

I make syn free ice lollies with diet lemonade/cola. Got some silicone moulds from IKEA that make Callipo style lollies.

fandabbydoozy · 04/04/2021 07:04

chocolate syn ideas:

tiny toblerones are 1.5 syns, skinny mars bars are 5 syns, Milka naps are 1 syn, 99 flakes are 2 syns and aldi do vienetta imitation ice cream sticks for 3 syns.

troppibambini6 · 06/04/2021 11:30

These are amazing and 5.5 syns each. They are a proper pudding and super sweet.

Good little hacks

Aldi lighter than light Mayo is a lifesaver and practically calorie free

LemonSqueezy0 · 07/08/2021 07:42

A sachet/11g of white chocolate options mixed in with quark is AMAZING! Leave it for an hour or so and it tastes so good. Perfect for if you have a sweet tooth. It's 2syns. If you wanted to, you can add that to a meringue and fruit for a full on dessert, but I must admit I just eat it from the pot over a few days Grin

Also quark is great with garlic and herbs mixed in for a nice dip.

Basically quark takes on the flavour of whatever you put in it, and is very filling as it's protein.

Will try to think of more...

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 05/09/2021 03:26

Light Squirty cream = surprisingly light on syns

Amen. Nearly had heart failure when I checked the calorie content of the Tesco version compared...

I use the Lina McCartney red icion saucies as stuffing balls with ready chicken

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 05/09/2021 03:29

Oh my Lord, damn keyboard

RED ONION SAUSIES

41sunnydays · 05/09/2021 14:18

Just discovered the gallo risotto (mushroom or saffron) are syn free. I make them with no butter or oil and just add parmarsan at the end. We have it with left over roast chicken and asparagus or peas and it tastes amazing - and the family love it !

What an amazing idea! Thanks for this (I know I've kind of resurrected a thread, but it's a useful one!)

I also second the Quark suggestion from up the thread. I buy 3 tubs of Quark every week - one gets a load of chilli flakes dumped in it, one has loads of garlic (puree, ready garlic or fresh) in it and one has vanilla essence added.

Leave in the fridge over night to marry the flavours, then I have free dips / something sweet all week :)

Most of the Ainsley Hartiott couscous packs are 1.5 syns for the whole lot. Very handy as only need to add boiling water and they are very tasty.
