Recipes are turning out wrong

So I joined slimming world on Monday. I made the dirty rice on their website... turned out awful and nothing like the picture and was practically tasteless! I am now tonight making sticky chicken and there is nothing sticky about it so far. In fact I'm really angry about it waste of money for ingredients.

Are all the recipes like this? I don't want to be wasting money on things to go in their recipes when they turn out a waste and massive disappointment even though I'm doing at it says.

I can't help I have rarely had a recipe fail and I'm 15 years in now. I like the magazine recipes but I do double the spices, never cook with Quark and don't eat the Iceland meals

MotherOfLittlePeople · 16/11/2019 19:58

@InfiniteSheldon yes I've heard about the Iceland meals so won't be trying them lol. It turned out ok-ish but there really was NOTHING sticky about it in fact I found it quite dry and almost as if it was a meat rub that had been put on, although tasty x

I make sticky chicken all the time and definitely find it tasty and a bit sticky! Can I ask how you made it?

MotherOfLittlePeople · 16/11/2019 20:52

I followed the recipe and method of slimming world website

I found the dirty rice recipe a huge disappointment.

I do use the Slimming eats recipes more as they are quite tasty.

I have about five of the recipe books from SW and use them all the time. Most recipes turn out ok .The only time I seem to have a problem is when I try to substitute an ingredient.

MotherOfLittlePeople · 17/11/2019 19:48

I'm going to attempt it again but cook it slower and see if that helps. It said medium to high heat but maybe it was to high?

My first weigh in tomorrow and I'm worrying I've not lost anything or much!

Well guys I must off been doing something right! I weighed my self at home before going as didn't want to face the embarrassment of having gained any weight. My scales showed a 1lb loss so I was a bit disheartened but when I got there I'd actually lost 3 and a half lbs!

Well done on the loss! I found with recipes it is trial and error finding ones you like, and also I ended up making some changes to most, just tinkering around until they are how I like them (always trying to keep them free though!). The ones in the mage and books i found sometimes a bit overcomplicated. Once you get your head around the plan and what's free and what's synned, its easier to make your own recipies up and adapt old favorites. It gets easier. And cheaper once you have all your spices etc stocked up!

@ReallyRatherBlonde I've bought the pinch of nom book so going to use that this week plus adapt what I would of normally ate. I'm actually enjoying it. I've been unable to stay for groups as I've been taking my youngest and she will not sit for long. I hadn't done any exercise last week so going to add a bit in this week and hope for another similar loss, thank you 😆 x

The salt and pepper chips in the pinch of nom book are amazing btw!

InfiniteSheldon · 21/11/2019 13:26

The pinch of nom book is ok but it really doesn't focus on Free Foods and those are the foods that get you the best weight losses

ALittleBitConfused1 · 14/01/2020 13:24

Can highly recommend pinch of nom too.
