I'm thinking of joining Slimming World

I need to lose weight and I have heard lots of success stories with SW. I did attend a class maybe five or six years ago but found that particular class very long drawn out. I also thought I would never get the hang of how it works. I want to give it a go again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Did it take long for you to get up to speed with how it works? Are the classes long? Thanks.

I didn’t get on with it, it made me put on weight and actually develop worse habits but I have friends it’s really worked for.
I found the meetings very long but usually just got weighed and went home. It didn’t take long to get my head around it and there are a lot of recipe sites online

Thanks Aberforth. Smile

I lost 5 stone with slimming world. I started at group to make sure I was doing it correctly but now I don’t go and joined a lot of Facebook groups for support. I did lose my focus and gain nearly 2 stone but I’m back in the 4 stone loss range. It took a couple of weeks to get my head around it and adjust they way I cooked things. I think meal planning is key. I write my meal plans for the week and only buy what’s needed so nothing in the house to tempt me

I just joined this week if you want a buddy. Smile I've got close to a stone and a half of baby weight to lose. Getting on well with the food plan so far.

I've lost 17lbs so far this year and I'm happy with it coming off gradually. It's easy to follow once you've read the info in your welcome pack, and I'd suggest following lots of slimming world accounts on Instagram for ideas of different meals so it doesn't get boring. I only ever stayed to group the first time, then just went to get weighed and now I'm confident going it alone I don't want to pay £4.95 a week just to get weighed.

I lost 5st 5lb in 2015 with SW, gained it back after pregnancy. Just started back and I'm on 13lb loss in three weeks. It's such an easy plan once you get the hang of it. I love it. The groups are a little tedious but worth staying to if you find the right one. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies. Thanks Emelene for your kind offer. Still dithering a bit. Love hearing the success stories.

I feel the same as you OP, I need to lose approx 3 stone - am happy to do meal plans but unsure what I should be eating.

If anyone would like to share plans of daily breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks with me I would be very grateful.

Groovee · 12/04/2019 13:42

I've lost 5.5st and have maintained my loss for a year.

I did SW in the red/green days so it took me a while to get my head round the extra easy but once I did it's now a way of life.

I found joining fb groups good for ideas etc. The support thread on here really helps too.

I find it family friendly. The meals I have done this week have been popular with everyone in the house.

I have a variety of spices and herbs I never dreamed of having and a whole new line of recipes which I always thought would be complicated.

Agath123 · 12/04/2019 14:09

Thanks Groovee and congratulations on your brilliant weight loss. Smile

Letsdo, I found a seven day plan on their website.

Thanks, I will have a look at the menu to get ideas 😀

6.5 stone loss here, and almost at 7 stone award Smile

Didn't take me too long to get to grips with it, but it has taken me, imo, quite a while to get here. Started in Jan or Feb 2016 and still on my way to target (but very close now). I did it all with little to no exercise though, so am dealing with the consequences of saggy skin, which I may have avoided (at least to an extent) if I'd exercised from the start. But hey, I'm lazy! Grin I've just ordered myself some gym gear and am intending to join PureGym in the next few weeks.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Willow and congratulations on your brilliant weight loss!

I started sw 3 weeks ago and have lost 9 pounds so far. I have done ww several times in the past but Im finding sw simpler and a more enjoyable way of eating. I haven't been hungry and have eaten chocolate most days - I consider that a win!
Group is quite longwinded but as I am getting to know people it feels more sociable and I am enjoying it more. I would say go for it.

Pigwitch · 12/04/2019 21:26

It works. You just have to be on plan. Unfortunately I'm soooo off plan at the moment

Agath123 · 12/04/2019 21:31

Thanks a million. Great hearing all the positive stories.

If you're going to do it, do it with your sensible head on. Don't get sucked into the "make a cake with 6 eggs, pureed chickpeas and horse laxatives, Betty, and you can eat the lot syn free" bollocks. Learn to eat A SLICE of cake or, if you're a glutton like me, your eating habits don't really change and you're a walking coffee sweetener.
The veg ratios are good. The group-led reliance on fucking processed shite not so much! Good luck!

Agath123 · 12/04/2019 22:26

Thanks usually. Tbh, I'm fearful at the moment that I'm hopping around between all kinds of weight loss stuff, buying books, reading online and so on. I know what I need to do but just getting on with it is where I am stumbling. Does that make sense to anyone else?
