I have decided to go to SW as I am now 3 stone overweight and utterly miserable. I have been to SW in the past and it seemed to work. But here is the issue. I suffer from quite extreme anxiety in certain situations and sitting in SW group sessions is one of those. I hate it and REALLY struggle. Would it be an issue of I joined my local group but didnt stay for group? The consultant at my last group was very insistent on members staying and that was one of the reasons I stopped going. Are there any newish members who just go for the weigh in? Really getting myself worked up about this and dont know what to do.

I'm not keen on group so when I went i had to stay for the initial sign up then ran in and out every other week after that just to get weighed and buy Hifi bars. You can sign up online and be a member that way instead x

I have joined recently and never stay for group. The initial one was nearly an hour of going round every member in group and I nearly fell asleep.

I think they must have targets to do with people staying to group but you definitely don’t have to..

Have you ever tried weight watchers? I'm doing it at the moment online so all through an app on my phone no need to go to class.

MarthasGinYard · 29/03/2019 20:42

I very rarely stay for the group as I find it all a bit monotonous. They don't mind at all.

Maybe give it a whirl though one week just to try.

A friend of mine forces herself to stay for the group if she hasn't lost anything that week. It's extra motivation for her! Grin

I do SW and never been to a group, just do it online and use their app. No need for groups xx

Thanks for your replies. The reason I dont do it online is that OL need that motivation to physically go and get weighed. That said, those of you who do it online do you find it still motivates you to keep going even if you dont have that 'public' (as in someone else sees and logs your weight) weigh in?

It is online but therw is a huge amount of support with team rh, and its much cheaper than sw too. Might be worth a look. I dont work for them or anything, just they look really good and Im considering it myself having done sw on and off fpr years and being back at my start weight Confused

I'm with you Op

I have to go with my book and get it written down. I think online I wouldn't stick to it.

I need group. If you speak to the consultant at mine and say you don't want talked to, he misses you out at image therapy. But you can listen. There's been a few people who as time has gone on, got more confident and are now target members who are a great support.

edgen2019 · 30/03/2019 17:04

I go for my weekly weigh in but do not stay to group, the reason being the "happy clappy" routine gets rather boring, people even clap when someone has gained weight! not really interested in how many biscuits/wine/bread people have eaten and shouldn't!.
