Slimming World

slimming world scales

I joined SW for the first time last night and was dismayed and puzzled to find I was just under one stone heavier than on my scales at home. They are new scales and I also got the same reading on a different set. I believe SW is big business and designed to play with the mind. I am also concerned that the dietary advice is lacking in expertise. The brain needs good fats in order to function, yet the advice is almost to exclude fat with no advice on supplements i.e. fish oil. I will carry on going for a few weeks, but am suspicious....

Your scales will be different unless you have a solid floor and they are calbirated it will be different.

I got weighed at the doctors and the weight was 1lb out compared to the weight SW scales give me. At home im out by several lbs. I know what one I would rather trust after being weighed on calibrated scales.

Also if you weigh on the same scales week in week out at slimming world does it really matter if they put you at a stone heaver as long as they show a loss each week.

Slimming World does not say you have to exclude fats. It is a low fat diet, however you can have healthy fats like your oils and avocados within your syns! That way, you know you are getting healthy fats in your diet regularly. 1tbsp of olive oil is 6 syns, 25g of avocado is 2.5 syns I believe! You can still eat healthy fats. I would stick to one set of scales, so not weigh yourself on different ones.

As for fish oils, most fish is syn free on slimming world so you will get your omega 3s and healthy fish oils from that anyway.

OP I don’t think the oil thing is much of an issue. I don’t imagine many of us joining SW are at risk of malnutrition from not eating enough fat/oil, however healthy! The plan makes the average person eat far healthier than before they signed up fo SW. I think that’s a good enough outcome to start with. Also, oily fish are free on the plan and you can choose nuts as a HExB or use 5-15 syns a day on healthy oils if you choose too. Good luck in your first week!

If you are not convinced about slimming world, then why did you go in the first place? Surely you would have had a rough idea of what the set up was. If you don't agree with the diet, then don't follow it.

Because they are providing a service people are paying for all slimming clubs, be it slimming world or weight watchers, are legally required to have their scales calibrated regularly to ensure they are correct.

Slimming world regularly check and calibrate their scales. They are normally in the same place every week too. I noticed when I weighed at home that they scales varied if you moved them round the room.

I'm over 5 and a half stone lighter and have maintained my weight loss for 6 months. For me it's not a diet but a lifestyle change. You just need to build the"fats" into your syns.

I found it took me about 6 weeks to get my head round the plan and how to use my healthy extras and syns and lost 1st in that time.

It's not for everyone but you sound like you want it to fail for you.

There's something wrong with your scales. No way are SW wrong by a stone!

My home scales are exactly 1lb different from my slimming world scales. My home scales weigh 1lb heavier however if I move them to the bathroom or hall I can instantaneously lose 1stone because the flooring isn't even.

Why did you join SW if you're so negative about it though what you're claiming isn't accurate just like your scales?

As you're now a new member I recommend you go online and watch SW's new member talk and see if missed something and it may clarify some things for you. It is important to read your book from cover to cover, in the book you will see that SW contain information on the importance of healthy oils from recommending oily fish at least once a week, again under nuts and seeds which can be measured and used as a healthy extra B.

I bought a new scales a while back, if I step on it I get one weight, get off and not even move it then get back on and there could be a difference of several lbs.

Having done a number of different diet plans before I joined SW it took me a couple of weeks to get my head around SW as it was different in so far as I couldn't get over all I could eat, never feel hungry etc. so I was shocked to have lost 7.5lbs in the first week, 3lbs in the second week.

Hi,sorry to be late in joining the party! If it makes you feel any better I was 3 stone 4lbs heavier than my brand new digital scales I have at home...However we are going to class to change our unhealthy ' relationship' with good that has caused ALL of us to become overweight..OR in my case morbidly obese ! Maybe you need to figure out why you have chosen to go at all and maybe listen to other people's stories ,we all as human beings have our own ' issue's and food addiction and binging is often at the back of why we overeat ,eating our emotions I often think. You mention about healthy fats being vital to brain health at ...you are spot on! However I' he only been doing this a couple of months ( piled on loads of weight after being diagnosed with ME then Lupus..then my dad died all within a year) and I' be been a vege since I.was 10 years old ( 43 years) and I take help oil Omega 3 oil ,even use coconut oil as an antiseptic mouth wash!! However I cook with Fry Light of but it veg e stock ,NOWHERE does Slimming World tell us not to eat fats ,they have been going since 1969 and seller their own brand biscuit bars that even contain fat .The diet most definitely is a low fat and even lower sugar diet ,but there are so many plant based non chemical sweeteners out there that taste the same and bake the same as sugar .Just wish I' eve done this 10 years ago and maybe my MS wouldn't have been this bad.Good luck to you xxx Sophie

You sound rather defeatist, or maybe you need your Consultant to explain things more fully to you.

I sound defeatest?? On the contrary ,I think you at have sent this to the wrong person because I was trying to tell her that SW is actually a brilliant ' system's as opposed to a ' diet' .

Sophie, I was addressing the OP, not you,as I don't think that the SW plan has been explained fully to her.
Sorry if that wasn't clear.
I agree with all that you said.

I wonder too about the scales. I purposely weighed myself before weigh in last week, their scales were 1lb different to mine. Today weighed myself again just before weigh in and mine are now 2.5lbs different. It is probably just because Ive only lost apparently, and am annoyed Grin
