I've joined online as I'm deaf and it's obviously going to be hard to hear in classes.

I'm a bit worried about whether this will work for me as I hate pasta, hate quorn, hate most veggies and I'm a crap cook!

I did try SW before and found I was eating the same things a lot so I got bored. I also found the lean meat recommendations to be really tasteless and I found I was actually spending a lot of money on recipe ingredients.

I sound very negative about a diet I've just paid to join lol but any tips and motivational support would be very much appreciated. I really need to lose at least 4 stone.

Could you maybe tell us some of the things you enjoy eating? And what kind of meals you eat normally? Smile Are you a vegetarian as you mentioned the quorn?

flopsyandjim · 05/08/2018 19:03

No I'm not a veggie but my sister is and I remember us all eating quorn lol

I like red meat, chicken, pork, turkey, stir fries but without the veg! Noodle pots, tinned soups (I prefer veg in soups), fast food, Chinese, chocolate, chips, white bread, Diet Coke, popcorn, most fruit, ice cream

I really want this to work for me but I've failed most diets including SW before

Try weight watchers instead

Ok so you can eat all the meats as long as they have all the visible fat taken off (and skin). We eat things like steak and chicken thighs etc quite a bit and they are always really tasty. The only meat I dont like lean is beef mince.

You can make stir frys SW friendly and there are plenty of easy to follow recipes for takeaway style foods too not just on SW website but websites like pinch of nom. Fruit is good too and if you dont like much veg you could have a portion of speed fruit instead.

The soups are easy to make at home too and doesn't require much skill at all. This way you could make them syn free.

Chips are easy to make SW style too. My DP was not good at cooking and never cooked but decided to learn around the time I joined SW and he has cooked every meal since and has found the recipes easy to follow.

What veggies do you like? Are there any at all?

I think maybe if you want to lose weight you need to change what you are eating and get used to the veggies unfortunately! Most healthy diets include veg and don't include many of the things you like! Buy the Fakeaway book and give it a try, or try putting veg in sauces like spag Bol. You are meant to have 1/3 of a plate of speed food at every meal, which is fruit and veg. Have you tried 5:2? Then you only have to diet twice a week!

I’ve been using the recipes online and have made garlic prawns 🍤 and noodles which was so delicious. Have made the Cajun chicken and had with rice, also really tasty and very easy to make. Have tried the quiche, no pastry but uses cottage cheese and quark, didn’t have cheddar so didn’t use, never had chicken in a quiche - was ok but a bit odd.

There are so many great recipes to choose from, looking forward to making some more, especially the chickpea ones and baked eggs with tomato and spinach - looks like a great brunch

Thanks again everyone. I've been having home made vegetable soup and tonight I'm having turkey with SW chips using JD seasonings. I also bought some snacks from skinny bakery. the choc nut pearls are gorgeous but did not like the gingerbread men. It's all about trying new things and easing myself into it I think.

Tbh I’d leave the snacks and just get stuck into the meals, veggies and fruit
