Slimming World
Weight loss while quitting smoking

Hi all
I've namechanged for this as I've been so ashamed about my secret smoking.
I had my last cigarette on Saturday morning. I feel good. The occasional niggling craving but nothing I can't cope with.
I've smoked about 15 a day for about 15 years. Which actually makes me feel a bit sick when I write it down. I never smoked through pregnancy but fell back into smoking about a year ago. None of my friends or family know, but my husband does.
Anyway, the reason I am writing here is that I have lost 4.5stone with slimming world and am a target member. But I am right at the top end of target so don't have any wiggle room for weight gain.
So far, I have managed not to snack on anything other than a handful of grapes or carrot sticks. I am eating the same sized meals as I usually do too.
I know that smoking increases heart rate and BP and this is the reason most people gain weight when quitting (that and eating to satisfy cravings). I've read that my metabolism will take up to a year to go back to normal.
My question is, has anyone managed to do slimming world whilst quitting smoking and managed not to gain weight?
I am well aware that the other health benefits far outweigh any weight gain. But I have worked very hard to become a target member and I don't want to lose it. So if I can find a way to keep my weight stable, I'll be ecstatic.

Following. I joined about 5 weeks ago. The first week i put on 1lb. Since then i have maintained. They keep asking what i need help with, and so i stopped staying for groupm i go with family who didnt know i smoked. I was smoking 20 a day, everytime i have stopped up untill this time i have gained about 1 stone in the first month. I am at 1 month smoke free now and im quite pleased i have only gained 1lb.
I am intrested to know if it can be done and if so, how? Im keen to start shifting the lbs now.

Wow! Well done on the weight maintenance and an even bigger well done on being smoke free for a month @timeformy10thcuppa ! That’s fantastic.
So far my weight hasn’t moved at all. And I’ve been hitting the diet HARD.
If it goes down at all I’ll let you know. That said, I’ve read that it can take up to a year for the metabolism to return to normal.

Just an update...
I'm still not smoking and I haven't gained any weight.
I've stuck to slimming world (mostly). But because I've had the odd blowout, my weight has remained static.
Absolutely chuffed to bits! Almost two months smoke free and I'm never going back
