1/3 speed food

I’m just wondering how this works for meals that don’t have a variety of food in them. For example poached eggs on toast - I sometimes have this for lunch - 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast. So would I essentially just have 1 egg and 1 toast and then replace the second with speed food?

I’m also thinking of making the ‘farmhouse pizza omelette’ from the website, for lunch today. So would I just remove or not eat 1/3 and then add some salad etc instead?

Its easy for meals like a stew or grilled chicken, I just have a small portion and then veg in place of the ‘rest’ of the of the main I’d normally have ( sorry I’m really struggling to explain it!)

I just can’t get my head around the other meals, that are ‘small’ or basic anyway.

I have problems with at breakfast similar to your lunch. I had bacon and eggs but fried up some mushrooms too. I think if you need 2 eggs you could still have them just have speed on the side. My consultant always says to aim for 1/3 so as long as there's some on the plate. The 1/3 is a guide.

I tend to use it for meals where you have 1/3rd protein, 1/3 carbs or non speed food and 1/3 speed. If it's an omelette, I put it on a bigger plate to get my 1/3rd speed.

I have a poached egg, fried mushrooms, fried tomatoes and a pile of spinach. I work on the principle that a heap of leaves on my plate at all times is a good thing. (Spinach soon gets boring but the egg helps )

I always fold my 3 egg omelette in half on the pan (to make a semi-circle shape) and then that fills up half the plate and I fill the other half with speed food salad. That's how it looks in the SW book. When I have that for lunch most days in a week with HEx light bread I lose lots of weight.

You should have a third of speed foods where it makes sense. There’s no point just adding speed to your normal portion because then you’re just eating more calories. The idea is to replace a third of your normal portion with speed. However, this doesn’t always work e.g. if your eggs on toast is using your HEB for the bread you can’t reduce it because then you’re not having your full HEB. If it’s a meal like that I don’t worry about the speed, I just follow the third rule for main meals. However, I would then try and focus on speed foods if I wanted any snacks.

Could you have one slice of toast with a poached egg on and the second toast with muschrooms or tomatoes - or both?

ChessieFL I disagree with 'There’s no point just adding speed to your normal portion because then you’re just eating more calories.'

Most people I know on Slimming wold have portion control issues and would fill their plate with their normal food. I look at it as if your plate is filled with 1/3 speed before you add anytihng else to it, then you will eat less calories as 1/3 of the plate is low calorie, high nutrient food, so you are reducing your calories by almost a third for that meal.

However, if you are still filling your plate full and having a bowl of speed on the side, then yes, thats silly and needs to not happen.
