Sw leaders - earnings?

I'm curious. How much of the weekly payment from members do the consultants get to keep? I know theres tax and ni to sort out later down the line.
I ask because I've joined a new group and its one of 3 he runs. And all 3 are very busy groups, not just in January but throughout the year. And that's with lots of other local groups to compete with. This consultant seems to the the most popular one. Good for him as he's lovely. I'm just curious on how exactly they make their money.

I think they only keep about half. Not sure if they have to pay rent out of that.

ChessieFL · 09/01/2018 19:51

I think they do keep all of it, but then they have to pay all their costs out of that, so rent for the venue, all the props etc they have for the meetings, plus they buy all the books and hifi bars and magazines they sell in the shop (so if things don’t sell the consultant loses that money). God knows how much of the weekly fee they’re left with after all that.

InfiniteSheldon · 09/01/2018 21:46

You have to pay rent then give SW a percentage of what's left generally between 50 and 75% then out of what's left ....maybe £1.50 per person you pay for advertising/ leaflets/promotional stuff/posters etc all the award certificates/competition stuff and anything you give out like food diaries. You need 80 to 100 through the door to make even vaguely reasonable returns on the time and effort. Most consultants do it because they love to see the change in people and believe passionately in the plan. It also cost a fair bit to buy into and takes time to build up so he deserves every penny he gets imo.

I know a couple of people who used to run meetings.

It takes a lot of work to make any money from SW. As pp said there is a lot to cover out of your 'cut'.

Also hours of promoting your classes - door to door .

What about the ‘helpers’ who take the money, weigh people and sell magazines?
Do they volunteer but get free membership?

Groovee · 11/01/2018 20:35

Nope! I get nothing for weighing everyone.

ChessieFL · 12/01/2018 09:17

I used to be on the social team and our consultant used to give us free magazines. No other benefits though! I did it because it made sure I came to group even when I didn’t want to, and it’s a good way to get to know your group.

GoldenBlue · 12/01/2018 13:10

We normally get a free strip of raffle tickets. But we do it for the community really x

RaidTheCupboards · 14/01/2018 12:19

Wow I’m shocked. You’d think they would let you off with the £4.95 a week for helping!

Pardalis · 14/01/2018 12:46

I don't think it's allowed to let them off the £4.95. Usually the consultants will do a night out for the social team though
