Does your group do one? What is it? Do you buy a ticket? Do you feel obliged or inspired? I would like to give my consultant some new ideas as bored of seeing a tired fruit basket

OUr consultant always does a raffle. Each week there are 2 prizes. Normally these are the ingredients of 2 recipes that she will quickly explain at the beginning, or some new product that is low syn, or, like today, 2 packs of different flavours of the new Healthy Extra porridge oats so simple packs. About once a month I will buy some tickets, but not every week. I never feel pressured to buy, but I am sometimes inspired by the recipes that she talks us through and if i fancy it I might buy some tickets just in case I win and don't need to go and buy it all myself to give it a go.

I have been going for 18 months and have only won once legitimately, though. Another time a lady had to leave early and she gave me her tickets on her way out - she won but she has never been seen in group since, so by default I got to keep her prize!!

Recipe idea sounds good. Does it have all the stuff measured out? Like one of those subscription boxes? I quite fancy that - save having to buy spices etc that I might buy and have no idea and then leave in the cupboard for years!

No, its more a packet of everything you need to make the recipe.

So, full packets of everything? In one prize? Including veg?

The fruit & veg basket is the prize for Slimmer Of The Week at our meetings.

Raffle prizes are either £5 to spend in the “shop” or a free week.

Santa - Definitely not. Ha ha! A fatty sw member who fails often with a successful OH who has done really well - way more disciplined than me! He won the raffle today - fruit and veg. Definitely ‘useful’ but I don’t think it’s inspiring. We had a debate tonight about the prize and wondered how much of the prize gets used each week and how much gets wasted.
I wondered whether something different could be offered. On our Facebook page, people post photos of dinners that are on plan but don’t look like exciting plates of food. I mooted the idea of the raffle coming with some advice. OH is part of social group so thought he could offer some inspiration. He wondered whether it would be too exclusive......

Yes, full packets, so for example a stir fry recipe would be a pack of dried noodles, a pack of peppers, a pack of onions, mushrooms, perhaps another veg, too and a spice mix. So you could use the prize as a base for a number of meals really.

I asked whether you were a leader because, personally speaking, I can’t imagine our leader taking kindly to somebody trying to make changes to what is essentially her business. As all SW leaders are self-employed, it is literally her business (my leader is female - I appreciate not all are ).

I’m pretty sure any conversation about the naffness of the raffle prize would end with “there’s no obligation to buy a ticket” rather than “good idea, let’s change that.”

The social team is just a nice way of saying “unpaid helper” - I am on ours too. We hold no power 😉.

I don't agree, Santa. Not all consultants would be offended by a positive suggestion. BUT...... Pardalis when you say that your consultant gives fruit is it the fruit that other members brings in, or is it a fruit basket that the consultant brings in herself? In our group that fruit does go to the slimmer of the week, so the consultant buys the raffle prize herself out of her earnings, but if the prize costs maybe £7 for 2 prizes each group, she will make a profit of at least £20 from the raffle ticket sales, so a good investment I would say. I would be very reluctant to buy a ticket for a chance to win other people's left over fruit!!

Ours is either the makings of a recipe (full packets), sometimes the Aldi Super6 veg offers, sometimes a cookbook from the shop, or a food prep item (measuring spoons/cups or a spiraliser). A couple of weeks ago it was a slow cooker (The £9 Asda one).

Our prizes are usually something along the lines of a hand blender, scales, measuring cups, soup containers. Rarely it’s ingredients to make a meal. I buy a ticket if I stay to group but more often than not I weigh and go.

It depends, some weeks like this week, it’s a soup pack, with lentils with stock cubes.

Other times it’s been a lunch bag from B&M or the range with maybe tubs for taking your fruits etc in from B&M.

One week it was jars of slaw from Iceland (Baxter’s) with a nice cutlery set.

We had foldable drinks cups one time too.

If the consultant forgets it tends to be a syns book and a pack of hifi bars. I wasn’t amused to win scan bran one week.

My friend is a consultant and she shops in places like Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M

To be fair, I only have experience of ours Positive.

She would smile sweetly, note the suggestion, and immediately dismiss it. With resentment.

She's lovely really - but very clear that is her business and t's are crossed and i's are dotted in her way alone! No outside input is required .

The raffle money isn't profit, it pays for prizes and the drinks.

tabulahrasa Yes, my consultant would make at least £20 profit - that would be after the cost of prizes and drinks are taken out.

Our raffle is always worth £5 or more. I've won twice, once a stir fry pan and all the ingredients for a spicy stir fry; the next time a great Pyrex and ingredients for crust less quiche.

Fruit/veg/free food only gets raffled if the slimmer of the week didn't stay

Our raffle prize is always the ingredients for one of the recipes in the magazine (minus the meat) always a good haul and always inspiring - our consultant is fantastic at what she does

Our raffle is usually based on whatever that weeks feature is on the website. Usually ingredients for a recipe though. I always buy one but I also have about 3 large coffees while I'm there so I feel I should contribute!

We have all sorts, recipe ingredients, advent calendar with celebrations in, george foreman grill.

Just fruit and veg would not inspire me to buy a ticket

Our Slimmer of the Week basket is any ‘free’ food donated by members. A typical basket is Fruit, Veg, baked beans, tinned sweetcorn, tomatoes, pasta, rice Stock cubes etc.

Raffle ticket is 50p a strip.

The raffle money is for tea coffee milk, & raffle prizes.

Recently won 5 JD seasonings in the raffle. Really liked that idea x
