A need for speed ?

Hi, everyone here does so well at losing weight, and helping others when they need advice and encouragement.

I am a number of months into slimming world, and, (I don't know why I haven't asked this before), was wondering, when it comes to recipes in the slimming world magazine, is there enough speed food in the actual recipe?

The same with 'pinch of nom' recipes. Is there enough speed in their recipes?

Thanks guys.

I sometimes add more speed if I feel there isn't enough. For example I made paella but there wasn't as much speed as I would have liked so I added more as a side.

Other times I feel my portion will be enough so leave it at that. X

I always try and add a little extra but if I can't and there's some in the recipe then I don't stress about it

What I have been taught is that when it comes to speed you should ignore what's in the recipe, for example what's in the pasta sauce etc.

Put a 3rd of a plate of speed on your plate and then what ever you have made for the recipe goes on afterwards.

The speed food is there to provide low calorie dense food as a proportion of your diet and help portion control.

The SW recipes usually have a serving suggestion of speed food, eg serve with salad or broccoli, etc.
Otherwise my Consultant advises members to have the one third speed food on the plate before adding the main course, even if there is speed in the recipe, in order to safeguard weight loss.

Ok. Thank you so much. The recipe I made this evening has quite a bit of veg in it, but I did as advised and had some extra greens on the side.

Can I also ask does everyone had carbs with every meal. Mainly lunchtime that I am enquiring about. Thanks again.

I don't always have carbs. Today I had bacon, eggs and mushrooms for lunch x

@GoldenBlue I only realised about the 3rd of a plate speed and ignoring what's in your recipe, at my meeting last night (I'm on week 4). I thought the Speed in the recipe counted - but you're spot on. I'm hoping for better losses now I've realised I wasn't plating up right!

GoldenBlue · 07/09/2017 09:04

The third of a plate thing didn't hit home me until quite done time into my journey and it really does make a difference so I think it's important to remind people Smile

I don't get on well with carbs and once I got to grips with that I've lost weight consistently. I have my b choice but other than that I don't tend to have carbs more than a few times a week. I tend to have more speed food on my plate instead. Lovely roasted veg, mountains of cauliflower etc Smile

The other thing I got confused with is that peas are not speed. They are protein and I was having them for my veg as I love them. Switching to cauli or broccoli increased my weight loss

Yes sometimes it takes someone else in group to ask a question that you thought you were on top of, to then realise that you didn't have it completely right.

I'm not great with carbs either, but I get bored of salad for lunch, and kinda need to get a variety of ideas.

I find it much easier to not have carbs with my dinner in the evening. Fir example I had orzo last night with my dinner and I think I only really had it for the sake of it.

I also have been doing mainly sp, and it freaked me out what would happen if I put carbs into the mix more. I am going to stick to plan 100% to see if I lose anything. I am writing everything down and focused. I hope it lasts! However, I am completely crapping myself that I will actually put on this week because although doing it completely on plan, I have introduced more carbs.

I like to make extra oven roasted veg with lots of spice so that I can take a tub to work the next day.

I've got that today with crustless quiche :)

Either or both can be eaten hot or cold which is good when the weathers unpredictable :)

WillowtheWasp · 07/09/2017 09:43

Wow what is this about? Is it a secret code? I seriously hope people aren't taking loads of speed with their dinner !! Shock

Groovee · 07/09/2017 10:38

😂😂 Willow. I scared the life out of a waiter by telling him it was all about the speed.

Some fruits and Veg are classed as speed foods on Slimming world and they advise filling your plate with at least 1/3rd speed foods to help your weight loss. It's intended to replace part of your portions.

OP, I don't have carbs with every meal, and that seems to help me keep in my target weight range, especially if I have a week where I've had extra syns: meals out, etc.
I don't usually have SP days, just SP meals on normal EE days.
I,too, get bored with salad at lunchtime: if I am at home, I like stir fried veg with chicken, salmon, or Quorn pieces.
You could try SW SP recipes, and have leftovers for lunch the next day.
Don't be too worried about eating carbs, as they are included in the Extra Easy plan, and we know that works.
As with a lot of SW issues, you just have to find out with experience what you can get away with.

Hi. Lol! Speed, yes; it could be read wrong!

I'll see what happens this week and adapt as I need to. Thank you all.
