Constipation (not too much TMI, promise...)

Firstly, I am not a poo troll. Just to clear that up.

Does anyone else suffer from constipation whilst on SW? Any long term remedies (i.e. not laxatives)?

I'm only going about once or twice a week at the moment and although I'm not really uncomfortable with it, sometimes it makes me feel bloated and skews my weight which is very demotivating. I've almost lost two stone and have another one to go.

Typical day food-wise looks something like this:

B: Overnight oats made with natural fromage frais and handful of berries

L: Huge leafy salad with tuna

D: Chicken or fish with big pile of veggies

Snacks: apple or melon. Tea with sugar and almond milk.

I don't eat rice or spuds or pasta.

Is there anything I can do to get things moving on a regular basis? Any advice gratefully received.

OP my stock answer to this is Scan Bran: buy in group or at Holland and Barrett.
2 a day and plenty of water to drink and you will be as regular as clockwork.
They need to be moistened to be palatable, as they are very dry.
2 scan bran and 1 Weetabix is a HEB- nice with warm milk.
I had my 2 today for lunch topped with tinned chopped tomatoes ( with bacon, egg and mushrooms).
Or you will find recipes on SW website for cakes using Scan Bran.
They are very filling, too.

Prune juice was a saviour for me when I was having this problem when pregnant. Drank a small glass in the evening and helped hugely.

Oh god...both of those things sound gross! Thank you though Grin

Is scan bran that cardboard stuff?

The cheap stuff was awful but there's a brand sun something or other that was fine. Just quite sweet.

OP, yes, Scan Bran is the cardboard stuff!
It does need moistening to be made palatable, but definitely does the trick: I will concede that it's an acquired taste.

Scan bran chocolate cake is nice.

I fine frozen pineapple and pomegranate works for me.

I have mini shredded wheats for breakfast most mornings, that seems to keep me regular!

2 x hi-fi
flax seed oil capsules
flax seeds or linseeds sprinkled on your breakfast
cauliflower

Oooh. Scan bran chocolate cake, you say...

These flax seed things - do they have a syn value?

Thanks all for your replies.

Try magnesium. Obviously don't OD.

Northernmum100 · 09/06/2017 22:10

Maybe try a different cereal? You can have a lot of all bran for you B choice and top it with something like chopped apple and berries. I love overnight oats but find if I eat it every day then I suffer the same as you. Also, drink water, LOTS of water. I spent ages googling for natural constipation remedies and read the following for which I unreservedly apologise in advance for...... ' logs don't float down dry river beds'. See-warned you!!!!
