Embarrassed in group

Does anybody else feel embarrassed when it's 'your turn' in group i.e. they come round to you and ask how you've been doing, etc?

Last night it was my first group and when he came around to me i just felt so uncomfortable. firstly because he pronounced my name really wrong which made me sound like i had a strange name. then because he said 'and guiltynetter has gone into the lower stone bracket after just one week!' causing people to clap and woop...but i was exactly 13st when started so obviously ANY loss was going to take me into the lower stone! i went bright red. i couldn't wait til they got past me onto somebody else.

is this what they do every week? it took AGES to go round everybody

Yes that's what they do!

However, you can tell your leader that you'd rather not talk in group and he should leave you alone!

Well done on the loss. I hate attention and only really accept it when I get an award.

I know they like to play games such as so many points per pound etc, but I'd rather not have the stress of a mini target like what I get!

I hate it when our normal consultant is away and someone covers for her and does this.

Nobody is ever forced to talk in our group which is much better imo.

That is why I stopped going to group! Ours used to go round telling everyone what they had lost or gained & then ask what was your goal for next week and did we think it was achievable. What with that and all the clapping it all got a bit cheesy
I still, stupidly or not, go and pay to weigh as I know if I didn't do that I would cheat.

I was exactly the same to start with but find it much easier now. It gets easier with time.

that's what they did last night, go round and ask everybody what their target was! ill try group one more time and then ill probably just go and get weighed then leave.

Yes it's what they do. The group I went to had a lot of members too so it took a good hour to get round everyone and discuss what worked/didn't work that week etc. Dull as fuck!

I have been going for two months now and do not wait for class because of this, then last night I went to class and the leader had one of the other members doing the weigh in. I was livid as this person would not be known for her discretion. I had been doing really well but I've decided not to go back. Does weight watcher work the same way?

I think they should just pick a handful of losses; it must put a lot of people off staying. From memory at ww they will just talk about big losses anonymously and you can put your hand up to talk if you want to.

Biddy, it is normal for members to help out on pay, weigh and shop. I do it and we have to sign a confidentiality pledge. I don't know if they do this at WW.

Ours have 'helpers' too and good job as the 9.30 group is huge and takes an age. I'm sure they must be told about confidentiality.

I felt like this at my first weigh in but it's not always really busy so not always as tedious. Also, as I've got to know people there it's more interesting (and I use that term loosely!) as you start to give a shit about others and as you get into the diet you might identify with their issues more and have more to say yourself.

Maybe not though, it's not for everyone.

Biddy I'm on the Social Team (the SW name for those people who help do the pay/weigh/shop). We have to sign a thing about confidentiality, and honestly, the numbers don't stick. At the group I'm at we have to get 60-odd members through in half an hour. There is no time to memorise who weighs what (and honestly, I don't care enough about other people's loss to want to).

em I was thinking that. I can't imagine those on the social team give a flying fuck how much anyone else weighs. Well not enough to remember specifically anyway.

This is what they do. Or at least it is at mine. I like going to sw and i'm part of the social team but the group bit is starting g to get on my nerves! Our consultant goes around everyone, says if they've had a gain or loss, asks about their week, if they had a problems and asks them so to set a goal for next week. It goes on a bit and sometimes the consultant keeps asking people questions after they've said that they're fine! Last week it started at 7.40 and was really quiet, there was only 25 of us there and 5 were target members and at 8.20 I totted up there was still 4 people to do so I left. I think it woukd be better to perhaps just ask if anyone needs any help, hand out awards and chat to slimmer of the week rather than go around absolutely everyone.

I normally do the shop but have done weighing a few times but I've never signed anything. I usually do the awards too so look in people's books too. Tbh it's just numbers on a screen whilst weighing, I couldn't honestly tell you someone's weight within minutes of giving then their book back.

Biddy I am on my groups social team and do the the weigh in, I couldn't tell you from one week to the next what anyone weighs - even me tbh - we are very busy and we fly through it as fast as possible - nothing - believe me nothing - goes in and stays there. And from my POV even if it did I would never, ever divulge it

I really enjoyed class last night. We were discussing our favourite foods and what recipes we like. Did a quick round the class of your week and left on a high.

I'm back at sw after a few years off, and there's obviously a new thing of going through everyone's gain/loss. I hate it, the previous chat was much better.

If you ask your consultant they won't call in you.

The usual lady who does the scales is shit hot on discretion. No one is allowed within 100 yards of the scales, talking about results at the scales is discouraged. Which is perfect.

I wouldn't say I get embarrassed. More flustered. I don't love the sound of my own voice like a lot of people in SW groups.
