Motivation or deflation

Have been doing SW a number of weeks and it began well but the last two weeks I have had small gains due to a holiday and to the inability to say no to nights out
I follow the food part of SW religiously. I keep a food diary and my syns are usually around 5 with maybe 1 day a week at 12-15 syns not including sat nights I expected my gains and am not overly upset about them as I know it's to do with alcohol intake.
However... a friend of mine is losing every week and has been eating fast food here and there.. nights out drinking (not low syn drinks) and at weekend we went out for Sunday lunch and while I avoided anything which could have been synned... they had Yorkshire puds, roasties, stuffing, buttery mash and lashings of gravy!

Would it piss you off or would it motivate you? --

FunSponge, there are members like this in my SW group: good losses every week, despite nights out off plan, takeaways, etc.
Some people can get away with it, and others, like you and me, can't!
Or maybe your friend has not had as many syns as you might think: maybe she's been good either side of the Yorkshire puds and roasties, and hasn't really actually gone over her weekly syn allowance.

I think the only thing you can focus on is your food and sticking to plan. I've been lucky so far in that I've been able to have the occasional takeaway (always within syns) and still lose each week but I'm only 7 weeks in. I imagine the closet you get to target the harder it gets. I know in group we've had a few people move into SP to get their next stone awards.

Your friend will probably find it slows down for her at some point and she'll need to cut all that out to keep losing. Also agree with pp that she may be super-good the rest of the time and just use her weekly Syns in that one meal/night.

I've only just started but can see that nights out and weekends are my potential downfall - I do like a drink!

Are you allowed to tot up your syns over a week rather than a day? My co-ordinator (or whatever you call her) said you couldn't - you had to use them daily and couldn't use more days' worth at once on a decent drink. (I'm not an alcoholic, really, but know that if I open a bottle of wine I am not going to stop at one - I'd rather abstain in the week and have a few more at the weekend/down the pub or whatever?

You're not meant to save them up. The reason behind that is that it makes the plan too restrictive during the week so you're more likely to give up than if you allow yourself a little treat every day.

However, if you do it and it works for you then carry on!

Thanks. I don't find it at all restrictive so far as I don't have a sweet tooth at all. We'll see how it goes I guess.
