Need to shift a stone.....absolutely won't happen by myself. I find the whole group clap clap thing dreadful.

Food optimizing....what is that? not eating crap basically

Well just do it then!

I lost 4 stones at SW. don't go anymore and have maintained for 18 months.

Don't go then. Some people find the groups keep them on the straight and narrow.

Sounds like it might not have been a good group that you went to.
I look forward to going every week, enjoy the friendliness, and the consultant is knowledgeable and inspirational.
I f it was "brain numbing", I'd be the last person to want to go to such a meeting.
You might prefer online membership if going to group doesn't appeal to you.

Try a different group. I've lost a stone and found staying to the class really helps. When I was a member 10 years ago I struggled as the lady who ran it wasn't very nice.

Do it online? I've been thinking of doing that

Just go for weigh in?

Report
annatha · 28/08/2016 19:53

If you need the motivation then just go for weigh ins. I'd never stay on track if I did online membership.

Thought it was going to be a thread about moving to Totnes. Grin

I think you have to give the groups a fair shot, I remember the first time I went finding all the clapping comical but a few weeks later once I'd got to know people I loved group. I'd say go four times and if you still hate it just go to the weigh in or do it online like others have said :) good luck!

I lost three stone when at group. Put it all back on and probably more (been ill). Thought I could do it on my own and I really can't stop eating the crap
Am considering rejoining.

I think it's down to motivation?

you see thats the bit that bothers me.......people losing it and putting it back and more. I have to recalibrate my brain to a different type of eating for ever.

some of the consultants are genuine folk who care but to some its purely business. One in particular was so fake and me me me i was dreadful.

Well take what you need from it and then def it out!

For some reason the structure works for a lot of people, I tried on my own a few times but attending groups is what worked.

Now I don't go. I am not paying someone just because I have the audacity to put on 4lbs.

I was always about a size, not a particular weight so as long as I can still get in my clothes I am happy. Sometimes they are more snug than others.

Use MFP to count your calories and eat whatever you want to.

MNers link up on there, and you can link with others too, if you like the group support thing.

The bit about people losing and then gaining can be said about any diet. Once you have been over weight and in a diet it's not something you can just stop and not expect to gain. I think it's a life long commitment to keep the weight off.
I know what you mean about group it can be cringy but they say people loose more and keep it off by going to group. I'm only on 2nd week but going to try to go group as much as possible. Try a different meeting and see if you feel any better about it

Maybe you should try online membership. I've been an online member since April 2015 and I've lost 4 stones so far.

I just think life has moved on and SW seems left in the dark ages like the Peter Kay sketch. Professional adults behaving like children round some fake choco bar or clapping like seals because Mavis lost half a pound.

Ha ha ....probs go back though!!

randomer, you seem to have gone to a really strange group: don't blame you for being so disillusioned with such an experience.
I've never seen anything like this.

I'm considering online membership because I really feel ready to try and lose weight again but I hate, hate, hate the groups and meetings. By the end of them I just want to eat crisps and drink beer and tell people where they can stick their motivational bloody stories. It's my problem not theirs, I know that, but they bring out the very worst in me! So how has online membership worked for others who have tried it?

randomer · 31/08/2016 14:53

chough....not just me..think a few people have have odd experiences. and yes alltouch it can badly backfire and make me scoff loads!

What are you going to do then OP? You say you can't do it yourself but can't stand slimming clubs? What is your solution. I assume as you've posted that you do actually want to lose weight?

I like it so far. I've changed groups (schedule rather than personalities) and they are both full of nice, normal people talking about food and struggles. Nothing too 'deep' but it's not just wushu-washy generalities either. The leaders seem to actually address the person in front of them, even if the solution is not something earth shatteringly innovative. It will involve food, motivation, a degree of self control.

I went to a lovely group yesterday so all is well. Thanks for your kind concern.
