Becoming a consultant...

Hi all. I have been a member of SW for over a year, lost 5 stone and reached target. I went to an opportunity event last week and am considering becoming a consultant.

Are there any consultants on here who can give me a warts and all idea of what life as a consultant is like? It's a massive financial outlay for me and I want to make sure I go into it with my eyes open.

I went to one of the consultant events and also have two friends who were SW consultants.

It is a lot of work for not a great deal of income. I suppose if you are passionate about helping others to lose weight and are prepared to work a few evenings running class (plus all the extra flyering, planning) then it might suit you.

What stopped you becoming a consultant iwantgin? Are your friends still doing it? I'm not scared of hard work but I don't want it to be all consuming for the rate of return

I just figured that it would be too a lot of work for not enough return.

As I said earlier - it may be good if it was to fit in with childcare etc - but I don't have the problem any more.

No, my friends gave it up after a while as it was too time consuming. One in particular had very little support from her management team and was really struggling when ill, trying to get cover for her classes etc.

hopefully someone will post who is running classes and making a good living from it. Then you will have a balanced viewpoint.

There's a lot of pressure in our group to go to the opportunity events. I've said I will go to one even though I'm no where near target and wouldn't dream of being a consultant till I'm at target and even then may not. Was it a very hard push? What's the financial outlay? Am I better to say no to going ? I just don't want any distractions from me getting to goal

Hi Lugo, I must admit that the opportunity evening was very good. Very well put together and a lot of facts and figures. They were very honest about the work involved and how much you're expected to reinvest. Initial outlay is a lot. By the time you pay the franchise fee and pay for hotel/travel for the initial training you are probably looking at the best part of 2k. They expect 10-12 hours work per week and one group to start with. There is a lot of leafletting involved and heavy promotion of your new class.

I gave my phone number and one of my local team developers called me for an informal chat. I told her I was undecided and she was brilliant. No hard sell at any point. I asked for a bit of time to do some number crunching and when she called again a week later I told her it wasn't the right time but it may be something I consider at a later date. She was very understanding and said just to go along to another event if I decide to go ahead in the future.
