Has anyone tried doing slimming world diet without going to the groups or paying for online membership? I have about 2.5 stone to lose but 0 funds. Will I be facing a losing battle?

Im doing it loosely without both. I researched the basics online.

Ive lost nearly 2 stone slowly but surely.

Another 2 too go

Duggee · 19/09/2015 21:50

Wow that's great! I've lost maximum 7/8 lbs and then I out about 10 on. I've lowered my overall target this time to see if it takes the pressure off. I think slimming world might be more successful as I can eat when I like and not feel hungry.

How are you doing it loosely and still losing weight?

I need the group for motivation.

I eat myself stupid if I don't go to weigh in so I joined the social team and help out every week now.

ForChina · 19/09/2015 22:33

I sometimes kid myself I can do it without joining but tbh I just don't have the self control. Well, would I be overweight if I did?! I need the knowledge that I'm going to be standing on that official scale every week. I don't stay to group though as I can't bear it (and it takes ages) but I do go every week to get weighed.

LakeFlyPie · 19/09/2015 22:40

I know the plan inside out but don't have the self discipline to stick to it without going to group Blush. I'm not sure if it's the investment or the accountability to the group and it does make me a bit cross with myself but the group works and the weight's slowly coming off.

calzone may I ask how the social group works? I've been dying to know, just out of sheer nosiness, if there are any perks (e.g reduced membership cost) or is it an altruistic activity?

maygirl · 19/09/2015 22:43

Some GPs offer slimming world on referral, so for free in 12 week blocks. Maybe check it out?

overitalready · 20/09/2015 10:31

By losely I mean it depends what kind of day I'm having so if I choose to have an extra slice of cheese or I want an extra dollop of Mayo then I count calories that day instead of Syns. As long as I'm under 1300 for that day then I'm ok with that.

All my dinners tend to be slimming world recipes that I find online or from the mag.

What works for some doesn't work for others though.

I have massive motivation to loose the weight so I know without going to the group I'm not going to eat more than I should be.

I weight myself every Monday at the same time and write it all down so if I do ever go over what my aim is then I knuckle down abit more. It's only happened the once when I got back from holiday.

It averages out about 0.5-1lb a week I'm loosing so as I say it's slow but it's working for me. I have until June 2016 to hit my target.

calzone · 20/09/2015 17:47

LakeFly.....we get nothing! Nothing!

Apparently at WW it is free if you help out but not at sw. I do it cos I enjoy it and it makes me go for weigh in.

Ragwort · 20/09/2015 18:23

I think you can if you are super motivated - I've done the 12 week course twice and lost weight ............ but then put it back because I just didn't stick to the plan - I wasn't actively trying to lose weight. I have lots of the books and magazines so I spend a long time going over them. I've tried every diet under the sun and feel that SW is the most sensible - so long as you don't go mad and eat too much.

I've been following SW on my own for the last two weeks and lost half a stone, but it remains to be seen how long I will be motivated for. Grin.

Lillamyy1 · 20/09/2015 22:53

I don't even have motivation to have under 15 syns a day even with going to group Blush The only way I've found to kind of get round it is try to do SP days most days - seems to nearly even it out!

ChessieFL · 22/09/2015 08:04

I wouldn't have stuck to it without going to the groups. I stay almost every week and I do come away feeling motivated to stick to it.

I'm also on the social team and we get the magazine free and a free strip of raffle tickets each week. Sounds like it depends on the individual consultant what you get!

Duggee · 22/09/2015 12:44

I'm starting today without the group, I'll see how long it lasts lol if not I'll ask for SW gift card as a pressie for xmas

How you getting on so far duggee?

lighteningirl · 25/09/2015 18:42

Get a home made gift card/donations the official sw gift cards are more expensive than joining (you don't get £5 off joining fee with the gift card)

Notsoskinnyminny · 25/09/2015 18:52

I am and have lost 6lbs in 3 wk. It could've been more but I like my wine at the weekend and we won't even discuss Wednesday when I met a friend for dinner after work Grin

I begrudge paying and don't enjoy the cliquiness of the clubs although I may have gone to the wrong consultant and I used to starve myself on weigh-in day and then go to the chippy on the way home. This time I'm putting £5 away every week to treat myself at Christmas. I log my weight and measurements every Sunday but not being answerable to anyone is working for me.

No you aren't the only one to steal lots of people do it you are the one calling it cheeky woman up and say it like it is.

lighteningirl · 08/10/2015 12:28

Just looked at your blog packed with mis information recipes that tweak the plan and will slow weight losses down you are also in breach of copyright. I would advise you to remove this link and stop promoting yourself as 'helping people'
Dugee I wish you all the best in your journey there are some great threads on here and the magazine is a great buy £2.95 and has a new 7 day eating plan for you to mix and match from. It's harder on your own but not impossible focus on foods you can eat for Free and avoid blogs like the above.

I started on my own just grabbing the basic ideas from the internet and friends. I don't have the time or money to actually join properly.

I had a stone to lose. I keep to plan throughout the day - sometimes I eat biscuits on an evening but I think I generally stay within my syn count. I drink too much alcohol too which slows it down.

Anyway I started in July and have lost half a stone. I know that is really slow but as I said, I cheat a lot and drink too much - if I cut the alcohol out I reckon I'd hit target within 2 months. I have 6 months though so I don't mind taking it slow as long as it carries on going in the right direction lol
