SW ready meals

MrMacadoo · 17/11/2014 11:47

just heard Iceland are going to be stocking SW ready meals in the new year. Am not a big fan of ready meals but with 2 kids under 2 I can't help feeling these might be a godsend!

I have the sausages to try tonight ...... Hope they aren't as bland as you say :(

Thanks for tip about cauliflower - does it taste of it as not a great lover of cauliflower ??

If I make lasagne I now use a packet cheese sauce. Think 7 syns and shared between Dp and I is 3.5 and that's the point of syns ie use them

Egg/cottage cheese /quark etc are rank !!!

tabulahrasa · 18/03/2015 08:52

I'm not overly keen on cauliflower either and I'm quite happy eating it...unlike cauliflower rice, that shouldn't ever be a thing, lol. There is an ever so slight taste of cauliflower cheese, but my teenage DC didn't notice it until they asked what was in the sauce.

What I did was the first time I tried it was I made the mince filling and was going to have it as Bolognese instead if I blended it all and it didn't taste good, but I tried a spoonful and was fairly impressed with it.

I've also tried making it with the low low cheese spread, which tasted fine in it, but there wasn't enough.

Can you tell white sauce is something I miss? Lol

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2015 16:34

tried sausages last night and thought they were ok, had a kick to them :)

CrumblyMumbly · 22/03/2015 16:12

Have tried all the meals and the tikka is the only one I would have again sadly. Found them all to be very bland and rather odd textures too.

Midori1999 · 24/03/2015 20:21

I've finally tried the ready meals! I had the meatball pasta. It was pretty watery, so I put about a tablespoon of tomato purée in it and it was actually really nice. I was surprised!

I liked the beef and vegetable crush, chicken pizzaola and meatballs.

The Singapore noodles are alright, the sausages are absolutely disgusting.

iklboo · 24/03/2015 20:28

I liked the chicken tikka & the beef casserole. The chicken pizziola was a bit watery. The sausages were vile.

GraysAnalogy · 24/03/2015 20:31

They're expensive for what they are IMO, I did really fancy them

Midori1999 · 24/03/2015 21:04

I've got the Singapore noodles and beef casserole in the freezer. Plus the sausages to try. I don't normally eat ready meals, but I have to eat regularly due to a health condition at the moment and include carbs, so they're handy to have if I'm in a rush at lunchtime or haven't been organised enough to sort dinner out.

I do agree they're expensive, even on offer at 2 for £5, but I only really plan to have them for 'emergencies' to keep me on track.

Midori1999 · 24/03/2015 21:05

I wanted to try the chicken tikka masala but it was out of stock. Was it nice iklboo?

iklboo · 24/03/2015 21:12

It is Midori. Not too spicy. If you make the SW onion bhajis you're almost having a takeaway!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2015 08:24

For the size of them and healthy ready made meals are always more exp then small eccomony meals - but at £3 each or 2 for £5 they aren't that exspensive

We can go to local sains or coop and buy ready meals for £2.50/3

littlemiss86 · 06/01/2016 22:31

Well they have, time to eat your hat 😉😉 xx

Re the Slimming World frozen meals,.
I'm cutting down a lot, not on any plan as such just yet,
can someone tell me are these very low calorie wise? These may help me as I have to cook for husband & son and often things I need to avoid ...

Thanks & sorry if dum question but couldn't see any info about these meals on icelands page.

Mummyme87 · 08/02/2016 16:50

Have no idea about calories but they are syn free, and I quite like them. Great for when I am at work. Lunch break often. It until 4/5pm so usually starving by then

wowser3 · 09/02/2016 00:19

I've tried 3 of the ready meals and all have been watery and gross, I have one more left in the freezer which I'm not too keen on eating now. I've had the SW frozen burgers and sausages too and I really liked those.

Mottled · 14/06/2016 14:01

I had a really busy day yesterday so tried one on the ready meals. It was not very nice and I will not have it again, it was chicken chow mein but I loath aniseed and the taste was too much like aniseed.

calzone · 14/06/2016 23:12

The paella was nice.

chaplin1409 · 15/06/2016 12:55

I have tried a few of them and I am not that keen. I did like the burgers.

puppydogmummy · 15/06/2016 17:47

The bean chili isn't bad tho a bit watery....

Geepee71 · 30/07/2016 15:33

Puppy, the bean chilli is much better with 1/2 tin of baked beans added to it.......

puppydogmummy · 30/07/2016 18:04

Yum!!!!Grin

Geepee71 · 30/07/2016 23:31

I was same as you when I first tried it, but addition of beans really made a difference!

Thebeachismyhappyplace · 07/08/2016 09:18

The meals are much improved if you pop them in the oven for 10-15 minutes after you've microwaved them. Thickens the sauces and seems to improve flavour too.
