GP referral for slimming world

Does anyone know if you can get a GP referral for slimming world? I have an appointment with the nurse soon, she mentioned weight watchers on the phone but I've heard lots of positive stories about slimming world and wondered if anyone had been referred by their GP?

Yes - My MIL goes to SW via referal

My mum was only offered weight weightwatchers. It must vary by different trusts.

I was referred by my gp to sw but they are changing the referral system according to our consultant - ask at your docs what the new rules are :)

I have just started my GP referral on sw. 2nd weigh in tomorrow. ??
I did not get offered ww but have taken up the gym referral in past

How overweight do you need to be?

Bmi over 30 in my area I don't know if it varies in different areas.

I helped out as a clerk for many years at Weight Watchers meetings and saw a lot of people pass through as GP referrals..please take the opportunity if you you can with WW or SW...I have had a life long problem with my weight and have managed to maintain a healthy weight for 5 years now.. Good luck

My gp is tight tho. Prescribes practically nothing.

Why don't you speak to your practice nurse, that's what I did and she refered me and was very helpful.

I tried but was told no..they do a local thing here which is different and doesn't fit in with my hours...They do gym referrals though

Why do you need to be referred? I thought anyone could go to SS?

It is dependent on the area you live in I know we have Slimming World on referral in the London Borough of Bexley for instance. Just ask at your GP surgery, either ask nurses doctors health visitor. It’s a really simple process and just find a group near you and away you go
