Slimming World

Male or female group leader

I'm considering joining slimming world there are two group I could possibly join. One is round the corner from me and run by a man, the other is a drive away and run by a lady. I think I would feel more comfortable in a female led group (slightly less body conscious). I'm sure they are both equally good.

What does everyone else do?

I'd try the man. I've been to 4 different groups over the years and the females have their favourites. I find men give you credit for the intelligence you have but women don't like to be questioned in public.

The one I go to is run by a man: he's lovely. Give it a go!

Mine is run by a woman, but I would definitely have gone to a group if it had been run by a man. I'd say give him a chance Smile

I'd try the man's group too. I left my woman led group because it felt very cliquey.

Join the nearer one, if you don't get on you can go to the one further afield you won't need to pay any registration fee again.

So yes see the man led group ago.

You can try them both out and see who you feel more comfortable with, you don't have to stick to one group as long as your attending a group every week you will be in the system. I will be transferring this week as I can no longer make my usual time and day.

I restarted SW a month ago at a new group and is run by a man. He is much more supportive and motivational than any of the female leaders I have encountered over the past 3yrs

I've got a referral from my nurse to join for 12 weeks. I'm tempted to try the male leader as it's a 5 min walk away and the most convenient time. Does anyone know if you can go and look beforehand? Ideally I'd like to start after Christmas as I don't want to miss any sessions. Do the meetings close over Christmas?

I've tried both but the female group leader was considerably better, she was just more organised and really knew the plan, offering practical advice. The group had really committed members too ,which should hopefully help motivate me.

In hindsight think it's more important to look at how well run the group is rather than gender of the leader.

A man all the way.

The guy we have (rob) is funny, motivating and amazing.

Knows everyone's name and has time for you.
