Woman of the year

I've seen it mentioned a lot and my consultant has said that it's about inspiring people. We've voted in group and we choose on this week. She's also mention 'regional criteria' which I have no idea about

Anyone able to shed any light?

Our winners are announced today. Seems like a popularity contest at our group. Not sure about regionals though. Hope someone in the know comes along x

I've been going to slimming world for about 3 years. Each group will have a winner but that doesn't mean you'll move forward to regionals. I'm not sure what the criteria is but I've only known one person to be moved forward to regional competition and she lost about 8 stone in under a year.

I am not that keen on the whole thing to be honest. In our group it seemed to be all about who had lost the most weight which meant it was all the people who had been twenty stone when they started. But there were lots of people who had 'only' lost 3 or 4 stone who didn't get a look in even though some of them had overcome illness or other difficult situations to lose that weight. I also think the real skill is keeping the weight off and more if the quiet target members should have been on the radar.

Re the regionals, I believe you have to be within a weight limit (according to your height) not necessarily at target.

I was voted the class winner previously, wasn't within that limit so didn't go forward. I knew none of the group outside of the class and had only been attending that group for a few months so can't imagine being too popular Grin Was lovely to have been picked tho. I did attend every wk, had good and bad wks, was open as to why I may have had a gain etc so who knows....

Miss Slinky on the other hand was embarrassing, parading round the hall wasn't for me Blush

Great to have a few things clarified! I started at 18st 1.5lbs, lost 1st 8.5lbs since Feb, so unlikely I will win, people have lost way more than me in less time.

My consultant phoned today and apparently I need to speak for 2-3 mins on my journey. Eek, very nervous about that!!

TOP well done on your loss so far.

Personally I voted for one of the women at my group who hadn't lost too much, she hadn't been going that long, over one of the others who had lost 6st over a period of time and had become a bit complacent about the whole thing.
Wrong? Maybe, but, I just felt more inspired by the one I picked due to the fact she had great input each wk, being helpful to all the other members.

We have quite a supportive group, none of the chummy chummy stuff so I don't feel there's a popularity contest going on.

my consultant said you have to have lost a minimum of 4 stone to be put forward for regional but anyone can win the group award

One Skiinny Chip i agree Ive been on both sides. I was Class Woman of the Year in 2003 after losing ten stone. I lost one stone a month for 7 months and it took just over a year to lose the last three. I did go to regionals but couldnt go any further as i wasnt yet at my target at that point.

I didnt gain all the weight back I gained 4 stone back I restarted SW last summer and its taken me a year to lose 2 stone 9 even though ive STUCK TO PLAN. Now im not that bothered and i actually decided to stop staying to class because i got sick of the talk about "healthy competition" i go in once a fortnight and weigh and run.

But where this is a little bit unfair is that we cant control what our bodies do We cant help it if it decides to come off slowly. And when i was voted Woman of the Year i was very ill with gall bladder disease from losing the weight too fast (was told this is what caused it by the surgeon who eventually removed my gall bladder.) YES thats right I was voted Woman of The Year when i was fucking ILL from losing the weight too fast.

Instead of getting disheartened and quitting after 3 months like most people would do if their weight crawled off though ive kept on going. Wheres the recognition for people who do this? It sends out completely the wrong message.

I deliberately didnt set a target this time and after the way the weight has crawled off im glad i didnt I weigh 14 stone. (might be just under that now as we are coming up to my weigh in week) yet my bra back size is only a 34. My boobs are a J cup. So if i lose too much more im going to end up with a really bad back. So another half a stone then i stop. Considering i was 21 stone in early 2002 that will do me. Have come down from a size 22 to a 16 in the last year. Any pressure to do any more and i walk.

Because i always lose sod all off my boobs yet my back and shoulders are really small. I have to accomodate for it.
