I feel so demotivated
13

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/03/2014 10:42

For the first time I weight more than I did a month ago. Even when I stick 100% to plan I don't seem to lose weight. I joined last May and have lost 2stone, which I'm really happy about obviously, but a guy in our group got his 2 stone award last night having been there for 7 weeks...the childish part of me just wants to stamp my feet & shout it's not fair. How can I learn to ignore how others are doing and just concentrate on my own weight loss? It's a significant birthday in July and I would like to lost another 1 1/2 stone at least by then and I just feel that target is slipping away.

There's a guy at my group that loses about 7lb a week...it's really hard to clap for him, lol.

Even worse though, a few weeks after I started my DP also joined - so, I cook his food for him (because he's at work, not just because) I know exactly when he's had a sneaky burger king or a night out where he's decided to not count syns and he loses more than me every blooming week. Angry So he's lost quite a bit more than me over a shorter time and had less to lose to start with anyway so isn't that far away from target and I'm there plodding away losing slowly...it's absolutely infuriating.

But, ultimately, there's really no point getting caught up with what anyone else is doing as it just messes you up - you need to just concentrate on yourself.

Have you tried keeping the food diary and taking it in to talk to your consultant?

What really demotivated me is not that others loose 5 pounds and me half a pound.

What really gets to me is the consultant saying:

Ohhhh do tell the group your secret for loosing 5 pounds!
Then the person lists the exact things I am doing as well.

When it comes to my chat I am asked: what happened???
I say nothing I did all as per plan.....

Then as final comments at end of group time consultant says that if we don't admit our slip ups to consultants they cannot help you......

I do not care if everyone looses more then me.
I DO care that I'm looked at as if I'm not telling the truth about what I eat.....

I'm really fed up.

And I noticed that this thread titled "demotivated" has gotten very few replies or support.

I think it's really normal to go through stages of demotivation. The reason it's not a big deal at group is that those people don't go! They weigh & go or quit altogether so ( if you want to be competitive) you're already beating them!
What about looking for non scale victories? Inches lost, clothes that didn't fit before, being able to walk/run a bit further?
2 stone since May is fab - well done OP! Men generally lose quicker than women, unfair but they do. It's like comparing apples & oranges. Don't waste your energy getting upset.

I am like you OP - I lose slowly and get totally pissed off with people losing in 2 weeks what takes me 2 months! So I stopped going to Group and am doing it on my own.

It's a known fact that men lose weight quicker. It's also believed it's helped because they dint venture into the kitchen to cook! Keep the faith - slow & sure will win the race!

My husband does nearly all the cooking and we both got to target about the same time!

Maybe we were lucky, but we found it really easy!

It took me 8 months to lose three stone in 2012. I have kept it off though. Slowly is definitely better.

Everyone is different, that is fact.

Think of it this way, even if you only lose 0.5 lb a week, that is still nealry 2 stone a year.

A loss is a loss.

This is partly why we started our blog, to try to help those struggling that were not, possibly, getting the right support feom group. Not to replace the group, more to enhance it.

As target members, we do try to pass on what worked for us, and are happy to talk about it to anyone.

ooohhh Jaabaar, in exactly the same position, I've actually stopped going to group because I was being made to feel inferior and once accused of lying!

I try really hard do body magic, mixing it up too, count all the b* syns! ( sorry shouldn't swear!!!)

So I'm at home doing it myself and have managed to maintain for a month, which I am really proud of coz have had a massive upheavel in my routine.

I was reading in may/june issue - pg 18 - whats stopping you? article this morning and have made a list as suggested. I realise that my againsts were 3 pages long ( my note book not A4) and my fors were 1/2 a page, that's when I decided to look for help elsewhere.

Having read all the above I am now ready to start again. I realise that some of us just need an extra push as our motabilisum is slower??
(hopefully)
Sorry about all my spelling mistakes!

Off out for a nice walk in the sunshine to boost my mood and make me feel less guilty about the nice egg salad I'm having for lunch, yes with salad cream as I hate mayonnaise!
Flowers good luck everyone, we are all amazing creatures, we will succeed Flowers

I've been doing SW since Aug 2012 and got to 3st 12 off and am now taking the scenic route and am currently at 2st 12 off. I got complacent and bad habits started to creep back in, however, if I look back to big weight losses thru calorie counting, I would have piled all of the weight back on by now, and a bit extra for good measure. I have found the early part of this year tough as I was really motivated by getting awards and stickers for my book (childish I know....) and I see the Jan starters getting the stickers and I WANT ONE! This week's slimmer of the week in my group lost a whopping 10.5lbs. Consultant says :that is amazing, tell us how you did it? "well, I followed plan, but I did have two takeaways, blah de blah". Consultant didn't seem to twig that the huge loss was probably due to the fact that this woman had a baby 2 weeks ago. So, last week she was in and still had the big soft post-birth tummy. 7 days later that had naturally reduced, more likely due to fluid loss than any weight loss plan! I felt that this was a bit of false marketing to last night's new starters.

Men lose weight differently to women as we have different fat cells! I have a lot to lose and I joined Sw last year after having a baby and I used to get so frustrated at people losing half a stone in one week so I gave up! Just been diagnosed with a underactive thyroid so I'm ready to start again

I totally get this. I lose so slowly and there are people at group that lose 3lbs every week. 1 lady has lost 6stone in a year. I've lost 1.5 in a year :(

Does get frustrating.

I am not far enough in to be motivated or demotivated. Would suggest though that anything which makes you feel bad is counterproductive as it will make you eat.
Is there another group with a different leader nearby?
