Dummy for naps but not during the night?

dd2 is 9 month old and has always been reall y bad at napping, until a month ago she used to sleep in the sling during the day, now i rock her to sleep for morning nap and she sleeps in the pushchair for the afternoon one. The problem is that she wakes up after 30 min and the only way to get her back to sleep for another 30 min is giving her the dummy as soon as she gets into a light sleep. She sleeps reasonably well at night,I feed her to sleep at 6.30 and then she sleeps through until 5.30. She does wake up sometimes during the night but she normally self slettles or I just shush and pat for 5 min and she goes back to sleep. The thing is that I really do not want to start giving her the dummy during the night and I am concerned that if she gets used to it during the day she will start needing it at night as well! So has anyone ever given the dummy just for daytime sleep and not at night?

TIA

I use a dummy when I rock DS to sleep for naps, although I take it out before just before he's asleep. At night I feed him to sleep.

Apparently day sleep and night sleep are controlled by different parts of the brain (well, according to Marc Weissbluth in Healthy Sleep Habit, Happy Child, anyway). So it doesn't matter if what you do in the day is different from what you do at night. (Although apparently LOs find it easiest to learn how to go to sleep without help if you always use the same method eg always rock to sleep for naps, always shush pat at night.)

Well done on being able to get her to sleep without the sling in the day! I remember you postng about it a while back (my DS would only sleep in a sing too - now he's okay in his cot). It's great that things are getting better.

Thanks AngelDog I would have never thought DD would nap anywhere else apart from the sling! I went to Italy to visit my parents for a short weekend and forgot my sling in the cab, by the time I got it back DD was happily napping in the pushchair which was great!
