People who have read NCSS, can you tell me if this sounds like a good plan for 10 month old dd please?

I haven't managed to read it but am desperate to do something about her sleep and can't let her cry, even with something like gradual retreat or ssh pat, because it wakes ds up.

Dd is 10 months old, bf to sleep at night, rocked to sleep in pushchair for naps. I was bfing her back to sleep every time she woke in the night but that was working less and less well, and I am 99% convinced she isn't actually hungry, so about 2 weeks ago I stopped feeding her between dream feed and 5-6am and we have been trying to get her back down by cuddling/rocking/singing etc with mixed results (haven't ever had to feed her but some nights she has ended up in bed with dh...). She has a good bedtime routine and usually goes down easily, same with dream feed.

So my plan is: try and unlatch her before she is completely asleep at bedtime; give her a comforter (have started this already and she isn't really interested, but will persevere!); naps at same time every day as far as possible; carry on with cuddling/rocking/singing at night.

Anyone done something similar and seen improvement, or any suggestions for a better plan? Am feeling a bit disheartened as for a few nights after I stopped feeding her there was a huge improvement, she was back down within 30min and even slept through one night (!), but is now back to 2hr marathons.

I haven't got time to reply properly now but just wanted to say come and join us on this thread - we are all going through (or are coming out the other side of) similar issues.

I used NCSS with DS and have had good results.

Will try and post properly tomorrow night. Hang in there - it WILL get better.

Thanks a lot Bicnod, am knackered tonight after all day at Legoland with the kids (and not much sleep!) but will try to come and join you tomorrow! Glad you found NCSS useful, gives me hope...

Sorry LandL - back at work yesterday after maternity leave so bit hectic. Yes, please come and join us - lots of people on that thread going through the same sort of thing. I used NCSS and sort of blogged my progress on that thread as well so might be helpful to read back up thread.

Your plan sounds good. I used a mix of NCSS techniques and pick up put down (think its baby whisperer but have never read it) to reduce amount of help DS needed (rocking/singing etc) to get back to sleep in middle of night. Its all down on the other thread - sorry don't have time to link as have to get me and DS out of house in 45 mins.

Just quickly though - results will come if you stick to your plan, but it will be slow progress. Don't be disheartened if it feels like two steps forward one step back. Elizabeth Pantley says the road to a full nights sleep is more like a dance (or something like that) and she's right. You'll get there eventually - keep thinking long game long game.

See you on the misguided illusion thread later x
