my 8 year old daughter all of a sudden won't sleep on her own

hi
my daughter has always slept in her bedroom absolutely fine, occasionally sleeping in her brother's bedroom on the spare bed, or having sleepovers with friends. For the past 2 weeks she refuses to sleep in her bedroom and constantly goes into her brother (age 11) bedroom and sleeps on the floor. But he is at the age where he doesn't want her in there (and she shouldn't be in there anyway) so he gets angry and i am having a constant battle all night to get her back to her room. All she says is that she is scared of noises she can hear and doesn't want to sleep in her bedroom. Absolutely no amount of reasoning has helped. I have tried a reward chart and that hasn't worked. I have hardly slept for 2 weeks and it is making me ill, plus she is shattered and then extremely stroppy and badly behaved during the day. Does anyone have any suggestions ?! I don't know what else to do! thanks Lizzi

poor thing, it's not nice being scared in the night

my 7yo dd has yet to go all night in her own bed, she normally comes in about 4am when she knows I am at my weakest

could you put a mattress down besides your bed?

she isn't worried about school or any big changes going on?

thanks for the replies - yes she has been very unsettled because of her school - they suddenly announced they were closing and the majority of parents pulled their children out very quickly and suddenly - we were going to change schools anyway in September because we knew it was likely this was coming, and she was very excited about that - however, she has been begging to move schools for the past 2 weeks because she has become increasingly unhappy - since i first posted here, we have now changed her school - just 2 days ago - she is more happier and much more positive - however, the past 2 nights she is still extremely scared of being on her own - i have put a mattress down at the side of her bed as advised and this has helped - she comes in around 4am and sleeps the rest of the night on it which is great - however, going to bed is still a huge problem where she will not go in her own bedroom, but still insists and creeps into her brothers bedroom - for the moment we have decided to allow her to do this and then when she is asleep around 10pm we move her back to her bedroom (where she then stays until around 4am) - a slow improvement, but we still dont' know what to do about stopping her going into her brothers bedroom at the beginning of the night - he is getting very upset about it as he really wants his privacy!
