Is it okay to let a baby sleep on their side if they turn there themselves?

DS is nearly six months and has seemed to have recently decided he likes sleeping on his side. Sometimes he'll go onto his back during his sleep, sometimes not. Is this okay? Or should I be putting him on his back?

Put him to sleep on his back but, its fine for him to turn himself

Mine used to do this and my doctor pointed out that unless I was going to sit besides the cot watching all night there was precious little I could do about it.
Put him back on his back when you check on him but other than that you can't do anything.

Okay thanks Have just put him down after a feed, and as long as it has taken me to sit back down (ten seconds ish?) he has turned himself after being put on his back. So will leave him like that if he's comfy! I prefer sleeping on my side too, so he has my understanding

Be prepared for him to decide he likes his tummy too, that was the next step for mine which really worried me, but as they gain more mobility there isn't really anything that you can do (except worry of course )

from 6 months you can let them find their own sleeping position. My lo's favourite was face down with bum in the air.
