what's happened to my night time angel?!

My DD is now 10 weeks, and until a week ago I would put her in her moses basket after a feed (aroung 8/9pm)- she would still be awake but would settle herself to sleep and I was only having to get up once in the night after that to feed her and then she would wake up at about 7am. Yes, this was great and I was feeling very lucky and not too tired at all!

BUT in the last week it has all gone wrong! she either cries after her last feed in the bedroom and if I try to put her down she cries and cries and does not settle herself at all. or if I leave the last feed too late (post 8pm), she falls in to her deep sleep downstairs and I end up just carrying her to bed without a last feed and we end up having an unsettled night (up 4 times last night).

I can't seem to get it right - if I try to put her to bed before she falls asleep she won't settle (and there is usually crying from both of us as it goes on for ages!), or if I wait until she falls asleep she is not getting used to going to bed and we have an unsettled night.

how can I get the good routine that I had just a week ago? How can I help her settle on her own without many many tears at bed time?

Advice / comments welcome please! - feeling we are taking 3 steps backwards at the moment - or am I just expecting too much from such a young baby?

Thanks

you are expecting too much

she doesn't need to get used to going to bed - she won't have that much of an idea of what bed actually is

my DD didn't go to 'bed' until she was around 18 weeks

if she is crying then cuddle her, feed her some more, swaddle her or sling her

most babies cannot self soothe consistently - that is why they need rocking/dummies etc

The fairies came and took her in the night, and left you a Changeling

Or, alternatively, wot Ruby said.

my DD @ 10wks was happily going to bed at 9pm then the same thing happened, turned out she actually had changed to needing to go to bed at 7pm a whole 2 hours earlier! she has been going to sleep well and only waking once at 5am for the last 3wks. (now 14wks) No problems.

If i leave it even 20mins too late i get screaming for 30 min so have to put her down straight after feeding BEFORE she looks tired. It's a bit tricky at first finding the exact right time as too early and she doesn't sleep either, but she's now got me well trained at spotting the signs

DH does the 5am feed so i get a lie in until 9am :D
