My 11 and half month old baby still not sleep through!

My little boy is one in two weeks time and no where near sleeping through the night. He has a routine in the day, having a sleep after lunch, and at bedtime goes down at around 7 (bath, bottle, bed) without any problems, but then usually wakes after about an hour and then twice more during the night. We give him water twice during the night and then around 4 am we give him milk and he then will sleep to between 7 -8am.

With my other two children we used controlled crying and after a few nights it was fine, but he gets so upset and after 90 minutes I give in and end up feeding him. We have been giving him porridge for supper but it has not made a difference. I have just started back to work and am struggling! Has anyone any ideas?

Perhaps you could change the daytime sleep to just before lunch instead of afternoon, and get him to bed a little later in the evening, say 7.30.

Of course, you do whatever does the trick in the middle of the night, but I doubt the problem is really about feeding. What about some fresh air and exercise after the evening meal, now that the weather is warmer? Wear him out - that was always my aim.

Neither's mine, she's one next week and we still get up twice in the night

I think sleeping through the night is a misconception. My 27m old DS1 still wakes now for a cuddle more often than not

CC didn't work with him as he'd just vomit after 2 mins of it. What we did find though was that he had silent reflux and once he was on medication at 15m he did start sleeping through (until DS2 was born last August and then we went back to nightwaking).

The fact your son wakes an hour after going to bed suggests to me he's not transitioning through the first sleep cycle. Does he fall asleep completely on his own without any help from you?

DS2 (8.5m) still has two night feeds. If I BF him to sleep at 7pm though, he always wakes up after about 45mins to an hour, then we have to pat his back for a few minutes until he drifts off. If he falls asleep by himself in his cot, he goes through to the first feed at 1am.

There's no magic solution, they will sleep through when they're ready.

I agree. My ds was exactly the same and he slept through sometime into the second year thats why I'm not too worried about my dd who's 1 next week.

Sorry if that's not very helpful OP

My twins are also one in just over a week. They have never slept longer in one stretch than 7pm - 4am, and usually wake at least once earlier than that. I am still feeding them at 4am as it's OK trying to get them to sleep when they wake earlier, but nigh on impossible at 4am unless I feed. I'm just hoping that 4am will gradually become, then 6 etc! There is so much going on at this age though - some nights are much worse than that due to teething. I'm starting to just resign myself to waiting for them to make it on their own, as I don't want to do any sort of CC.

Tred CC for a week, it has made things a whole lot worse and the guilt has almost killed me! Now just hoping he will go back to just waking once a night instead of three times!
