13 mo not going to sleep on his own any more...any ideas?

Hi there, my 13 mo had always gone down without hiccups at night, by himself, after a bedtime routine that we've started from about 3 months. The past few weeks he is increasingly refusing to be left alone, starts crying when I walk out, sits up. He does this whether he has had a late-ish nap and/or like yesterday, he was up from 2pm. Put him down at 6:30 and had to stay with him crying and babbling until 7:20. Normal bedtime is around 7.
Any ideas would be appreciated! Would like to nip this in the bud, without giving him the bottle, but I don't know, sometimes the path of least resistance seems just too tempting.

Hmm. Sorry your post hasn't been answered and I'm no expert, but I think at this age it's really normal to go through a bit of an attachment thing. And also to be realising the power and effect of crying.

As you've had a good routine in the past, I'd say really just stick to it. If he sits up, just leave him a moment longer each time before going back in. Don't let him get too frantic, but just reassure him that you're there. Maybe just go to the door rather than out altogether?

could he be a bit under the weather? Maybe the lighter nights has disturnbed his sleep pattern? Agree with Mary -stick to your routine and be very calm with him.

Thanks people. He currently loves sucking on his empty bottle, it seems to be soothing him and the molars are big bumps at the back.
He sits up many times, I put him down many times, he gets quite upset and he does get overtired at some point. I should probably just stick to my guns, which is hard! I will try walking to the door, see what happens. Hopefully it will pass!
