How to stop my baby crying at nap time

Hi

My daughter turns 1 in a weeks time but i feel like im back at square one with her sleeping.
Everytime she is put down for a nap she will scream and scream. She wakes at around 7am and i usually put her for a nap around 10.30. Sometimes she will cry for up to an hour before she drops off. In the afternoon she goes for a nap between 3-3.30. She will only usually nap for 30-45 mins at a time. I did try to only give her one nap but that just made her cranky all day and made her night time sleeping hurrendous.
At night time she isnt normally as bad. I will take her up at 7pm and read her some stories and give her some milk. She does wake up in the night crying but settles back down after 5-10 mins. Id really love some advice on how i can help her get to sleep without crying.
I have a new baby due in 8 weeks time so would really love her to be more happy at sleep times by then.

I think if she's crying for an hour she isn't tired tbh
at that age I put mine down for one nap after lunch
often they wouldn't sleep in the cot so I used to take them for a walk in the pushchair or for a drive in the car

My 4 month old DS doesn't nap unless in a buggy or car! Whether he naps or not he usually sleeps for ten hours once he's down (still falling asleep on the boob). I never put him down for a nap unless he gives me some sleepy signs but he rarely goes off so I don't push him. We have a total no cry rule so him being tired is the hardest part! Doesn't feel like I can do anything for him which is heart-breaking. I wonder if he'll start giving in and napping once he's mobile???

I tend to agree with compo,...maybe try changing to one nap a day, after she has had lunch...carb her up!! They get much more mobile after 12mths and if she is not walking now - she may well be by the time DC2 arrives.

I would also say that with both of my two, the change from two naps to one nap a day was notblack and white. There was a period when 2 was too many and 1 was not enough! So it may be that for a few days on the trot one nap will be good, then a day will come when she will be whacked at 11.30am!

Good Luck

I would totally agree with this. Any nap changing seems to be exactly like this with DS. 4 to 3, and the 3 to 2 etc etc
