Mine is pretty disastrous, but everyone else I know seems to get at least 5 hours and maybe even 8.... It is making me feel very hard done by, but we can't be that unusual... Can we?!

First question is what is yor general 24 hrs like in terms of your DC sleeping (where, how, duration) and feeding (breast, bottle).

My YS didn't sleep from 3 months to 6 months - well he'd sleep from 8pm until 11pm then that was it. It was hell. Like torture. You just muddle through somehow... Just try to hold back the evil looks at the mummies who tell you their little darling sleeps right through.

When my DD was 4 months she slept from about 9 -11, 12-3 and 5-7 at night, waking for 2 breast feeds and taking 30 mins - 1 hour to resettle afterwards. I used to feel I could function on 5 hours sleep per night but I didn't get that in a whole block til about 6 months and she started properly sleeping through at about 8 months.

As a general rule I always feel my DDs idiosyncracies are unusual at the time but find out later that there weren't.

mine generally sleeps from 7 til 10, then feeds, then 10.30/11 til 3.30 ish, then feeds, then 4 til 6 or 7. but sometimes its worse. I think I am quite lucky. I just make sure I NEVER ask anyone how their babies are at sleeping, it just makes me depressed when I hear how brilliant they are.

I should just stop listening to people boasting, this is the problem. The other problem is that I used to try to sleep ten hours a night. I LOVE sleep. I am now a zombie...
But maybe DD is actually quite normal and my friends are just really lucky/pathological liars...

My DS used to be a great sleeper until he hit 4 months! Then it all went wrong! He's just starting to improve again slightly at 18 weeks, but we're going away this weekend so no doubt that will throw him again. I too have lots of friends whose babies slept through from 6 weeks. In fact, nearly all of them. But I'm suspicious. If that's truly the case, who are all these mums on the sleep section of mumsnet?!!!

hobnob57 · 30/03/2010 14:21

DD1 was a nightmare at night but DD2 is better, but she DOES NOT sleep during the day. She is currently screeching on her gym she is so tired but no amount of patting, hugging, singing, soothing or jiggling will get the mite to sleep during the day except the pram. But it's howling a snowy gale outside... so I am resigned to listening to screeching for the day

NonnoMum · 30/03/2010 14:38

Normal? I think you are LUCKY, Flower. Have an 8 month old who has gone for a whole 5 hours only about 3 times...

(It's often only two or three hours...)

(Have found it best not to talk about it - and he is my third so it's not as though I don't know about sleepless nights- they just haven't been this bad with the other two!)

Oops - think I might have misread your original post... How many hours are you getting?
