My three year old daughter LOVES The Gruffalo... That's the only story she wants to hear before bed I know every single word in the book Was wondering if someone else knows what it's like to read the same book for three month

Dd1 (6) likes Hansel and Gretal (sp) and Fantastic Mr Fox, she also went through the Gruffalo stage oh and the Lazy ladybird. She often reads the same book every night for a month.

Ive just asked my DS. He has just informed me that his favouritest bestest bedtime story is Saturday Night At The Dinosaur Stomp.

GabrieleJ · 22/03/2010 17:43

Oh good to know I was about to start hating Julia Donaldson

DD1 (5) will generally listen to any story I care to read, but she does have a penchant for rhyming books and silly stories.
DTs (2.5) will only accept Where The Wild Things Are and nothing else will do at the moment.

I can remember having to read '3 hungry spiders and one fat fly' for a month, i can still remember the words now . At least now dd1 will read her own bed time story so i don't mind what she reads.

DS changes his every few weeks, but its currently a tossup between The Gruffalo and Dinosaurs love underpants.

Its hard not to switch off when you can recite them!

moocowme · 22/03/2010 21:32

my DS loves anything with thomas the Tank engine in it, our house is now a shrine to Thomas.

babyOcho · 22/03/2010 21:36

DD is really into Brown Bear at the moment.

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 23/03/2010 20:51

babyOcho - try 'Polar Bear Polar Bear' too. DS loves both.

babyOcho · 24/03/2010 09:00

thanks, am going track it down later today

zebedeethezebra · 24/03/2010 12:12

Yes, I buy more baby books to keep myself entertained, as it would be soooo boring to keep reading the same one over and over! DS liked Paddington (or maybe he had wind). I like the touchy-feely books you can get by Usborne, and they were half price on Amazon.

Rockbird · 24/03/2010 12:15

Monkey Puzzle, one of the Julia Wotsit and Axel Wotsit books. Over and over and over and over and over...

'No no no! That's an elephant!'

DD loves Peepo as well so we sometimes get away with that, or the Smartest Giant in Town.

canella · 24/03/2010 12:20

i used to have to read a thomas story ro dd every night - 4 years later if i pick it up i still know the words!! not sure of the title tho - but it had a button to press to make the choo choo noise at the end of each page - it obviously doesnt work anymore!!

also get fed up reading "we're going on a bear hunt" to ds's! all that swishy swashy swishy swashy!! but rather that than "fox in socks" every night - my tongue would be exhausted!

my fave bedtime story is called "goodnight lulu" - i never tire of that and could read it every night!

NinthWave · 24/03/2010 12:36

Mine (2.7) goes through phases...we had Gruffalo non-stop at Christmas time, now it's 'Rumpeta Rumpeta' AKA The Elephant and the Bad Baby.

He LOVES all the Julia Donaldson books, esp. Stick Man and Snail and the Whale, but I don't mind those too much.

ohemgee · 24/03/2010 12:41

DD1(4) loves

Cat in the Hat
Green Eggs and Ham
Any Katie Morag book
Velveteen Rabbit
Simple poems from an anthology eg The Owl and The Pussycat, Jabberwocky, Night Mail etc

Pollyanna · 24/03/2010 12:43

my ds (23mo) loves Owl Babies at the moment. He is obsessed by it.

Before then it was In the Night Garden Books.

He also likes Maisie and Bear Hunt.

smokinaces · 24/03/2010 19:38

DS1's current favourite is One Ted Falls Out Of Bed - he knows every word at 3, which thankfully means I lay down and he reads it to me :-)

DS2 (2) is still stuck on Iggle Piggle's lost blanket with lift up flaps. Am rather tired of feigning surprise that its not a blanket, its Makka Pakkas bike etc
