3.5 year old suddenly frightened of the dark

Can anyone give me some good advice about my daughter's sleeping problem.

She's always been a great sleeper: Going to bed without a fuss and getting up after 7.30am.

But in the last fortnight she's suddenly become scared of the dark. She won't go to bed at night, often coming downstairs three or four times before finally settling. She insists on having the curtains open so she can see the street lights, and her door open with the landing light on.

But she still comes into our room at around 1.30-2.30am every night and it takes a while for us to get her back to sleep. I have slept with her once or twice, but don't want to get into a bad habit with this.

She is also getting up quite early in the morning.

We have decided to buy her a night light to see if that works and have tried to reassure her that the dark isn't a frightening place, but so far nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I'm afraid I don't really have much advice but DS did the same thing at almost the same age. I was surprised, as since he was a small baby he has slept in the dark, with the door shut. He now has the door wedged open about six inches, nothing else worked...
