he used to be quite good in that he would have a bath, feed and go to bed and sleep at about 7pm but over the past few weeks he has stopped doing this and i do the same routine only to find myself running back up and down the stairs and taking him down with me and feeding him several times before he will eventually feed to sleep about 11.

is this just a stage or has he just developed this habit of staying up? what should i do? just let it be and accept this is his way or try and get him back into going down at 7?

I sometimes have this problem with my DD who is 8m tomorrow. I think that she sometimes doesn't get enough milk during the day because she is so busy looking around so she tops herself up at night. That said, she has never slept well, only once or twice through the night since she was born and she always wants milk when she wakes.

There is definately a link between how much food/milk is consumed during the day and the amount of time she sleeps during the day.

How does your DS eat and how much does he sleep during the day?

he will usually have at least two spoonfeeds, sometimes 3. and he has fruit, yoghurts and rice cakes as snacks between meals. he is feeding (as in breastfeeding) about every 3 hours during the day.

Hungry boy I tried parts of the routine of "she who cannot be mentioned here" and found that giving DD a bowl of baby cereal after her bath and just before her bedtime feed helped her sleep for longer stretches.

What about daytime naps?

Booyhoo · 10/02/2010 13:25

he sleeps very little during the day about 30 minutes tops in ten minutes stretches.

i will try this evening a bit of cereal after bathtime.

My DD sleeps like that when I let her but I do find that she has a better night if I am strict and put her down for a sleep in the afternoon in her cot in the dark where she always sleeps for longer. I often don't manage this but things are better when I do. Good luck with the cereal

thanks it is a battle to get him to sleep during the day but i am really persevering.
