27mth DD won't sleep in her room anymore!

For the last 2-3wks DD will not settle to sleep (preferring to sleep in the upper hallway landing rather than in her room) then wakes between 11-12pm and charges into our room to sleep with us (or gets taken into spare room with one of us).

Have tried letting her cry but she gets so worked up (chucks things down the stairs, wakes DS (6), Have tried taking her back to her room, sitting with her/next to her etc but just not working!

She has not been ill, not teething as far as I can tell, not undergoing any changes at nursery (goes twice a wk) so am stumped as to why this is happening.

We all need our sleep and I don't know whether I should actively 'do' something about it(getting tired of the musical beds game at midnight) or accept that its a 'phase' and hope she grows out of it... DS was also a terrible sleeper from what I remember until age of 4 at least

Help!

what about a stairgate to keep her in her room so if she does not want her bed she evenally sleep on floor and will get bored quickly and stay in own bed so everyone get good night
