hi title says it all really. my dd is almost 10 mths and just started to drop 2nd nap.

It has coincided with her sleeping through (fingers crossed it continues, almost scared to write it out loud in case it jinxes it!!)
so was wondering if less sleep during the day has in fact helped her to sleep through. I have always heard that more sleep breeds more sleep but dd has certainly never read any of those books!!!

i think it was somewhere around the 11 month mark (now 23mo). she used to have an hour about 10 and then another hour about 2. When she went to one nap i changed timings so she went down straight after lunch, about 12.30, and she still quite happily sleeps for 2 hours. i think it's quality of sleep that matter so if she has a good long nap then that's fine. hope she continues to sleep through

DS is 12mo and some days have one nap straight after lunch, other days he has a late morning one, and a mid afternoon one.

His nights are appalling though

around 11-12 months i think. the second nap at the point seemed to be getting later adn later so she couldn't get off to sleep at night. this improved when there was one nap so she was awake for longer in the afternoon. downside became one long nap in middle of the day around lunchtime.
mind you this time also corresponded with her going to nursery and ime childcare providers not usually that keen on sleep (unlike mums)

should add that my DD was a month early so it you adjust for that probably started to drop nap at same time as your DC

suiledonne · 03/01/2010 12:16

My dd2 is 13 months and seems to be in the process of going to 1 nap now. Some days she is tired early and sleeps about 45 minutes in the morning and then will need about an hour in the afternoon.

Other days she doesn't seem tired mid morning and goes to sleep around lunch time for about 1 1/2 hours.

To me 10 months seems a little young for one nap but if your dd seems to be getting enough sleep then I would go with her lead.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 03/01/2010 16:02

thanks everyone, suiledonne, I'd agree with you 10 mths seems a bit early but dd has never been that keen on sleeping and seems to manage on very little daytime sleep. If she gets 1.5 hrs in 1 or 2 naps, that's a good day, usually much less.

I try to start the nap wind down when she looks tired but usually as soon as she goes in the cot she pops up and starts jigging, laughing and rattling the cot bars. If I sit on the chair with her she reaches behind me and switches the light on!!! Clear message there

Dd1 and ds 1, both napped at 9-30am for 45 mins, and again at 12-45 ish for 2hrs til they were bang on 12 months, then dropped morning one. Dd2 dropped 45 min morning nap at 13 and half months, still has 2 hr lunch nap.

DS was past 2 when he dropped to one nap at home. (He didn't nap well at nursery until about 18 months when he had one a day for 1.5-2 hours, but at home would have his first at 9am and second around 3pm.) He's nearly 3 now and still not sleeping through, regardless of naps (no nap/1 nap early or late).

DuchessOfAvon · 03/01/2010 20:34

DD2 is making the transition now at 15 months.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 20:35

Dropped to one nap at 7 months, dropped that at 11 months. She doesn't nap in the day. Is a fab nighttime sleeper though.

JoeJoe1977 · 03/01/2010 20:38

Both mine dropped their morning naps at about 15months. DS2 now 19months and still having 1.5hrs each afternoon.

greensnail · 03/01/2010 20:44

DD is 12 months and seems to be dropping down to one nap at the moment. She's always loved her daytime sleep and up until now has been having 1.5 hours in the morning and at least 2 hours in the afternoon, so its a bit of a shock to the system to be losing that break!
