Some very stupid questions about sleeping 'equipment'

Morning

our 16 months old still sleeps in his cot in his gro bag no pillow etc. Erm, when do they start needing/wanting pillows/proper bedding?
(I am doing christmas list!).

We did when DS moved into a bed, about 2 I think, although might have been before.

no, I'm wrong, he had a pillow in his cot from prob 18 months (i remember as I then had to put him down the 'right' way round which made life awkward!)

DS had a pillow at 1, but only because he has a bad chest and it helps him not to cough. He had a duvet at 2 as he moved towards having a bed

Well this is the thing, DS still covers every inch of cot during the night and sleeps in some very odd positions so I am not sure if getting him a pillow or duvet would be a good idea.

Just trying to work out if not having a pillow at 16 months constitutes neglectful parenting.

I would imagine (although will concur if I'm wrong) that at 16 months he wouldn't be in any danger from a pillow or duvet - if he gets it over his face surely he'll just push it away?

Do you think he needs a pillow?
If he's fine as he his then I'd just leave it for now.

SPB - no don't think danger, is more likely to just throw it out of his cot if he doesnt want it in there.

Juule - not particularly but trying to think of presents that would be useful rather than just more 'stuff' IYSWIM.

when's his birthday? I think he might need this stuff in the next 6 mo or so if that helps

It varies. DD was a big fan of pillows so had one in her cot from 12 months. DS didn't care about pillows until he was well over 2.

DS staged an anti-grobag revolt at about 16 months, but has never been keen on duvets so tends to have blanket(s) (number and type dependant on season). So far we've stuck to blankets for DD too but may try her with a duvet when she moves into a bed in the next couple of months.

I gave ds1 a pillow when he was about 18 months old, when I transferred him to a bed, but he did't really know what to do with it for ages or seem that bothered by it.

Ds2 (now 21mo) has had a pillow in his cot since he was about 12mo. He put it there himself and is very attached to it (I guess because he's seen ds1 using a pillow).

DS has had a pillow from about 18 months. He started using toys as pillows and one day we went in to find he'd pulled a blanket that was on the side of the cot in to use, so we thought he could do with a proper pillow!

Interestingly, once he got the pillow, he stopped roaming around the cot at night.

If you do get a pillow, get a normal sized one. I bought a baby one, which is smaller, and then had to buy the smaller covers. And we'll probably end up getting him a bigger pillow anyway when he gets a duvet (which will be when he outgrows the sleeping bag)
