Bedtime story tapes - any good?

DD is 3 years old quite clingy when it comes to bedtime. For the past few months we have been sitting/lying with her until she falls asleep.

I am thinking of trying bedtime story tapes as part of the going to bed routine to see if she will go to sleep while listening to the tape without us in the room.

Does this work for anyone else?

Can anyone recommend a good story tape appropriate for a 3 year old.......

I do this with my 2 & 5yr dd's.

They have story read by me then have one of their story cd's on.

We have various ones.

Yes, works for us too. The thing is, though, that you have to be careful that you don't start substituting tapes for reading to your child. It can be a slippery slope. We use the audio stories in the car and at bedtime. However, we also tell him stories at bedtime. (Interesting ones, then boring ones for him to fall asleep to or he'll stay awake listening!) His favourite stories are "Once upon a time there was a boy called J...." or about me or his dad.
