Does your preschooler nap when he is sick?

My soon to be 4 year old has all but stopped napping - when he is well, he might only catch a snooze once a week. Now he has a bad cold and is quite congested. He does not wake me at night complaining but he is up a bit earlier than usual and quite fatigued looking in the day (no surprise). This may seem like a dumb question but will letting him nap be worse for him - ie. just make it that much harder to sleep at night and throw off his sleep schedule, or is it just what the doctor ordered? The reason I ask is because when he was still napping regularly, he was sleeping alot less at night, and he seems to have adjusted to sleeping more at night (until his cold came along).

It depends how poorly he is, really. If he has a fever, he will probably sleep a lot and it not affect his night's sleep. If he is sniffly but not overly weak/feverish, then an EARLY nap probably won't hurt, but a late one would. I know if I nap when I'm healthy, I wake up feeling worse.

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to agree. I just can't believe how he fights the early nap then totally melts down by 3pm. If we're in the car or I put him in his room for a time-out in the afternoon - he promptly falls asleep - suggesting that he is quite exhausted but I have to wake him or he simply won't be able to sleep at a reasonable hour at night. I guess it's just one of those things that will hopefully improve once he is better and there is no great solution.
