Does "wake to sleep" work for night time waking?

Our ds1 (16mo) has a well established sleep association. For about 6 months he has woken between 12.30pm and 1am and won't settle without milk. He is not hungry as he only has a tiny amount, he barely eats any breakfast when he does get up and feeding him at 10.30pm doesn't stop him waking at 1am.

We have used wake to sleep (rousing 1 hour before her habitual waking time so that she falls into a deeper sleep) to improve his big sister's early morning waking but we nipped that in the bud.

Please - to anyone who has used wake to sleep on a child whose sleep pattern was established for 6 months - how many nights did you do it for before they slotted into the new routine?

And does it work for night time habits or will we just postpone his need for help sleeping until the end of the next sleep cycle?

Any other ideas would also be gratefully received.

Thanks so much.

yes, worked for us when dd was waking at the same-ish time every night.
