23 months old just moved to toddler bed...

was previously co-sleeping from 4 months. How do I get her to stop getting out of toddler bed in middle of night and get her to stay in her own bed - quick method if possible?!!!!!!!!!

Stair gate at bedroom door. Just don't let her!

we put our dd in a bed just beore she was two, we haven't really had a problem with her getting out of bed, she had a stair gate on her door and we threatened that her door will be shut if she gets out of bed. seems to worked so far,
in fact the other night dh was putting her to bed and she kept shouting daddy but he was ignoring her finally he went into her, a teddy had fallen off the shelf and she didn't dare get out bed and pick it up!!!
how guilty did we feel!!!!

Lol lilybird we used the same door shutting threat and our dd is the same. BUT it still hasn't helped in the middle of the night!

I will listen to suggestions with interest.

BTW i'm not going to try stairgate trick cos it's not the way i do things, don't want my dd to feel prisoner and trapped as i just know she would scream and scream until we got up and also we have succeeded so far with the "going to bed" routine i don't want to mess this up with her having phobias of bedroom iykwim.
Before anyone asks i think the threat of the door shut is different as it is only a threat now, and when i did use it i just kept it shut for a couple of mins until she calmed down.

Yep another one who has a stair gate at door. If we didn't do it she was coming in wide awake to play, and not go back to sleep and it was getting as early as 4am. Now she's got used to not coming in to us she stays in bed longer. We leave toys and books out so she can play till we go and get her at 7am.

Actually Flavia you and I are in the same boat she is in my room and each night when she gets up I tell myself to take her back to her bed and settle her no matter how many times it take but my resolve goes for one reason or another - so can anyone help me with this one now rather than say I am stuffed!!!

The 'silent putting back to bed' routine is supposed to work for this. I think the key is to be completely consistent and to make sure there is no reward (attention) for getting up in the night. I didn;t have much of a problem with coming in throught the night, but we did have a bit of 'testing' of boundaries in the morning. I just told him to get back into bed! Its easy for me to be consistent about it because letting him into bed would be a complete no-no - I wouldn't get a wink of sleep.

btw when I've seen this doen on TV with kids who are used to coming in to their parents' beds, you can end up putting them back to bed literally 100s of times in the first night or two (sorry!) So I think its something to embark on when you are feeling completely motivated and determined...!
