Anyone know where I can get one of those cots that attaches to the side of the bed??

I would love to get hold of one for expected DC3 to make night time breastfeeding easier. The idea of just being able to move across and feed while they're in their own little safe space next to you is so appealing.

You don't need to buy an extra cot for this. Just buy a normal cot or cotbed and construct it with only 3 sides. We got a cotbed with 3 height settings and the middle one is the exact height of our bed, though we could have made extra holes for the base if we needed to change the height.

Tie the three sided cot to the side of your bed and pull the cot mattress across so it is right against the bed mattress. Then use a blanket to stuff the far side of the cot (there will be a 2 inch ish gap).
Voila! £200 saved!

Thanks for that - I had seen the Arms Reach cot but thought it a bit pricey to buy for our third, and probably last DC!!

I think we'll have a look at the cot we have and see if the height settings match our bed. Good tips for attaching it and making sure the mattresses are flush too. Fingers crossed!

I did the same as ZippysMum - worked just fine, and I loved being able to have my own duvet/pillow/space in the flipping bed again!

You could get a custom mattress to go in adjusted cot as a treat for dc3 Mrs Mc D.

when's your dc due mrsmcdreamy? i'll be getting rid of my mamas and papas one in december as we are moving country and i don't think i'll bring it with me. if dates fit and you're in or near london give me a shout

I wanted the same thing and I bought this. (I got in on ebay in perfect condition so didn't spend £200!).

BUT... as it turns out we have never actually used it as a bedside cot because:
a) DD only wanted to sleep either with me or in the moses basket. The cot was just too 'big' to start with.
b) once she was ok in the cot, we tried to set it up but I was really paranoid about the gap between the cot and the bed. It really is 2 inches and that's dangerous for a newborn. I couldn't get the hang of the sheet covering the gap thing - it just never seemed safe enough.
c) we came up with a way to position the moses basket on its stand at the same height right next to me (DH made some extension legs for the stand). That worked really well and also meant I still had room to get out of my side of the bed.

Hope this helps give you some things to think about before you spend too much. Congratulations and all the best when your LO arrives.

Ponymum, what a lovely cot and you were really lucky to get it cheaper on ebay. I'm definitely going to look at our cot and see if it could work in a similar way.

I'll keep my eyes open for other offers on ebay and you never know!!

Hi, I have a 'Bednest' for sale. It's smaller than that mothercare one, goes up to 6 months. Ex con, with mattress, some unused sheets and the 4th side to make it into a regular crib. It was very expensive new, about £230. I would like about £100 for it. I see that you live in Germany though...could look into DHL to Europe though!

i bought a mothercare one but with hindsight wish i had just got an ikea one and taken the side off. i read on a thread here about someone getting foam cut to size to fill the gap snugly, which i keep meaning to get round to. i think they got it from a caravan shop.
