13month old DS, still using a dummy to sleep, how do I wean him off it?

DS - 13 months old, has FINALLY started sleeping through the night occasionally, but now he is waking up and will only settle with the dummy, which is a real pain when the dummy has fallen out of the cot. It is therefore time to wean him off it.

He never uses it apart from to sleep, so how do I go about getting him off it, or do we just need to go cold turkey?

Any advise gratefully sought.

Drowninginclutter, with the dummy, if very tired, he would often go to sleep instantly (either that or take ages), but we were very pleased with 10 mins!

He woke up earlier than usual again - 5.15 - and wouldn't go back to sleep, but DH has managed to get him down for a nap now, so we are really happy with the way its going.

The big thing for me was that, for nearly the first time in 13 months, we didn't have to get up in the night, either to give a bottle or put a dummy back in!

That sounds like heaven, not the 5.15 start but an uninterrupted night. We're still dummyless but I've got to a point where if he'd take it he could have it, lost track of the number of times I'm being woken up each night.

Fingers crossed for tonight
