What age should he have a pillow?

My ds 22 months is a wonderful sleeper. He sleeps 12 or 13 hours at night and has a 2 hour nap in the day. This is a relief after the first 18 months of restless nights! I always thought that because he sleeps so well without a pillow that he did not need one. 2 nights ago he was coughing so my husband gave him a pillow to elevate him and stop the coughing. When I put him to bed last night and tried to remove the pillow he was NOT happy. He would not lie down until I had put the pillow back in his cot and he flopped onto straight away. Is it bad for him to give him a pillow at this age? And if so, what age should I give him a pillow?

My DS had a pillow at 19 months as he went into his own bed (started to climb out of his cot) I think the guidlines are not under 1 for a pillow or duvet....

I will use a pillow when my DD goes into a bed (she is 2 and a half but still in her cot), but don't see why they wouldn't be safe from a year as long as baby is mobile.
