My 18 mo appears to be waking in the night hungry.
He's done this a few times in the last week: wakes at 4am - I go in and give him a cuddle and tell him to go back to sleep. 10 minutes later he's crying again, and making a sign for food (fingers in mouth).
Milk doesn't seem to cut it - he wants something solid. I've been holding out on the basis that feeding a child this age a banana or whatever in the middle of the night seems just weird. But he carries on for AGES. This morning I gave in at 6am (I must have been in 8 times) and brought him into our bed and gave him milk at which point he finally fell asleep, but when he woke again the first thing he said was 'more' (meaning food!).
He had a tummy bug last week and didn't eat much at all, so I think he's now trying to catch up. He's eating a tremendous amount during the day (on his third helping of raisin wheats and blueberries as we speak). He's also a very active child who eats a lot generally.
Has anyone else had their child wanting food in the middle of the night? Should I just fold and give him a banana at 4am when he wakes on the basis that it'll probably only last a little while or is that just madness?
